Supercharger on a 300-6

I'm looking and doing some preliminary research on adding a blower to my 6. At the moment, I need some info on what I need to supercharge it. About how much boost can I run without having to run over 93 octane? I have had no internal work done to the motor besides the cam at the moment. Would about 325+hp and 400+ftlbs or torque be feasable. What all do I need to do to prep my engine? How would I tun the carb?

Thanks a million.........Now I wonder what the look on a Trans Am drivers face would look like when I walked him...:-staun

Just tossing around ideas at the moment

The question is not how much boost you can run, but where the hell did you find a supercharger for this engine. I've never seen one, but would love to have one. Are you planning on machining your own supercharger intake? If you found a company that sells one please share

Right now the plan is to take a Eaton M-90 off a turbo coupe and mount it under the Ac and then plumb it like a blow-through turbo....mmmmmmmmmmm POWER

I think you mean a M-90 off a SuperCoupe. (Turbo Coupes had Turbos)

Sounds cool, obviously an upgraded ignition will be needed, MSD 6A? Will the computer automatically compensate for the increased air density?

I was doing research to turbo or supercharge a car I have.
You are better off using draw thru on a supercharger.
you could mount the charger on the drivers side and plumb it over.
you wouldn't have to do any radical changes to your carb.
to pressurize a carb, there needs to be alot of internal changes.
if you draw through, your vacuum system would stay the same.
you'll need the MSD6A with boost timing retard and a bypass valve.
You may want to double check but I thought the supercoupe came with the eaton M62.
They are always on ebay

>Now 4x4, 302, 8 bolt, 4" suspension, 3" body, 36's

I was at school today and I realized about the vaccume wouldn't be right with a blow through supercharger setup. There wouldn't be any...so that means heater/ac controls and the computer wouldn't know how much to advance the timing. How would I use a draw throught...maybe fab up a plate and tubing that bolts to the carb plate and then under the supercharger?

Thanks

Yesterday on my reply I was wrong. The GM uses a M62 and Ford uses a M90. OOPS!
Anyway, check out this ebay auction for a T-bird charger: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1825309499&r=0&t=0
it has an adapter that goes to a round flange that could be piped to your intake. or use the intercooler too and then pipe over. you'd need some kind of adapter to go off the rear of the charger to your carb.
there's always those chargers on ebay. I've been looking for a while now.
keep posted on what you do. there's a lot of people that would like to do that.

I had a TO-3 turbo on my 250 I-6 maverick. It was a draw thru set up with a 500 cfm Holley mounted ahead of it. Ran real good. Have pics at www.bigal.cz28.com Look on photo page. ANy questions just ask me. I can lead you thru a turbo setup for a six

OK, this is going to tell you how old I am. The perfect supercharger for the 300 would be the McCulloch/Paxton VS57 or a VR57. You can hang one of these babys anywhere and it is belt driven off of the crank pulley or rather a added on pulley on the crank nose. You cruse with 5 pounds of boost and when you stomp on it the drive pulley on the blower changes ratios thus the VR or VS (variable ratio the other is variable speed )in the number( through a kick down switch or even better a toggle switch )and you get 7-9 pounds of boost.Won't melt your pistons with 8 pounds. They were originally blow through in the OEM applications as the carbs were pressureized, this is not as hard as it seems. All you have to do is put the carb in a box so it is subjected to the same pressure inside and out and with todays cable throttle linkage it should be really easy.We used to seal up all the holes to the outside of the carb and blow through the intake of the carb. I had one on a 53 olds engine in my 48 Ford 5 window coupe, using a pressurized 4cg rochester 4 bbl and mallory dist with no vac advance. Now you are probably asking where can you find one of these??? Well find a 1954 Kaiser Manhattan, 1957 Studebaker golden Hawk , T-Bird or Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1825311593&r=0&t=0
or search ebay for McCulloch supercharger.
They are avaliable new but look much different and cost much more that the $25 I paid for the two I had.

Going back to what was said a few posts back, what about vacuum? If the entire intake manifold is under 5 PSI boost, where do you get vacuum from? Or could you have a vacuum can with a 1 way check valve to maintain vacuum when you are running under boost?
