Came across a post in a biodiesel forum talking about what this guy is doing. What do you all think of this...is this the "secret" to "Diesel Secret?"

i know some peole with veggie converted mercedes add 1/2 gal of gas to there tank of veggie. i have never done this in mine but saposivly works for really cold weather.

 

Yes, the RUG thins out the oil and also produces a chemical change to the oil so that it does not 'string' when pushed through the injectors. This will help avoid coking of the injectors and rings. It's also a good idea to add a cetane booster to the mix to help smooth out the combustion process.


Gas has been a winter additive to diesel for decades. It helps to thin it out and prevent clouding in the cold.

 

I normally run about 20% #2, 75% WVO, and 5% Reg Unleaded. My truck still doesn't have the power it has with straight #2, but a lot more than it did with straight WVO. I do know that an old volkswagon diesel a friend of mine has recommends up to 20% gas mixed with the diesel in the winter, so obviously you can go up pretty high with it. I am considering switching from gas to just putting propane injection on my truck, but I'm not sure about it.

 

Do you have any proof that gas "produces a chemical change in the oil (sic Veg Oil)". I do not believe that is possible.

 

When I make my blend I add 5% gasoline.

The old Mercedes literature advised adding some gasoline to the diesel fuel in the winter time.

 

Why would it have to produce a chemical change, its not supposed to produce a change, just thin it down, gasoline is very thin, as opposed to veggie, which is extremely thick. It makes flow and filter better.
