Problem Seeing Guages

There doesn't seem to be a forum for the 2008 Expedition, so let me ask here. I always had trouble seeing the gas guage on the 2004 that I traded in. Had to use a flashlight in broad daylight. I just assumed the prob would have been corrected, but my new 2008 Expedition has the same, or even worse, lack of illumination. Black backgrounds. Is there any way to rewire so that the guages and info screens are lit up whenever the ignition is on? The dealer says no.
Thanks

I would think not. The only problem I have is the glare sometimes. So you can't see the gas gauge on the 08 either?

No. It has a black background, as do the oil and water gauges, while the speedometer and rpm gauges have white and are easy to see. Maybe Ford doesn't want me to see how fast the gas needle is moving when I am towing (nine miles per gal)

I agree with that. I think I am making just over 10 and have not towed a thing other than my own fat self.

You can just turn on your lights all the time, and achieve better conspicuity while being able to see the gauges. Uses a little more fuel, though and not as efficient as DRLs.

I'm heavy too, but I think that it is all too tempting to use that 300 HP. When I gently use it, I get 17 mpg in daily driving, 20 mpg on highway driving and 9 mpg on towing 5000# travel trailer. Just put that egg between your foot and the gas pedal.

That 300Hp is pulling waaay too much. She is seriously slow. I must have something wrong with mine as the BEST she has ever shown was 15.1. Slam the pedal on the Titan, at the crappyest she'll make is 12 MPG-mind you 305/390 at about 6000lbs. The Expy EL 300/365 at about 8000lbs. If everyone else is getting over 15.1 on the highway I really do have something wrong. Last trip we took I left the cruz on 72mpg and she got 15.1. In town it is just about 10.3. Does anyone else have low numbers like mine? I am really convinced something is wrong. I drive this no different than the Titan and the V8 is a 5.6L and the Expy's is a 5.3L. Any feedback would be great...sorry to thread jack but I am worried.

I have about 6,000 Lbs for the EL curb weight. A little more for 4x4.

Per the door on the EL 7900lbs GVW and per the door on the Titan 6486lbs GVW. I am really wanting to know what other folk's gas milage has been like.

P Burns,

Please see my post "maybe it is just me, but" on this site. I go into detail how I fixed this problem on my 07.
Now my gauges are VERY easy to read in the day and night too. I really don't what Ford was thinking with using red on black.
Verrrry strange.

I doubt that anyone is has their EL fully loaded with passengers and tool and golf bags and .... such that the poor thing always weighs 7900 pounds. That is the gross vehicle weight rating. That is the most that Ford says it can safely weigh. What you really need to know is the actual weight that it weighs as you normally use it. That is more likely to be about 6600 pounds with a driver and full fuel. I bet the Titan weighed only 5300 pounds with a driver and full fuel.

Is there any possibility of showing us some photos? Thanks, Rich

I will see what I can do with my digital camera.
But I am not sure how to upload a picture to this site as I am not a computer person.
But may be able to figure it out if I start punching a lot of buttons on this here comp-u-tu-ter.
