Well since I have a truck I am getting hit for a 250ish "weight" fee. Ya it's normal, but I was told if you have a camper shell on the truck they don't charge this fee.. Is there any truth behind this?

I've already accepted the 350ish registration fee that's due in a couple weeks, but I figured I'd try to save a few dollars.. (Don't we all want to save a few dollars?)

From what I understand since you are registering a "commercial" vehicle you have to pay by weight. If you are stopped and weighed you need to be at or below the weight listed on the registration. If not you can incur a fine.

I know because I have been there...I did not get a ticket, but the it was close. The fine is typically back paying what you weight at that time to the begining of the year plus some more $$$.

Just sonther tid bit fot ya...if you use a SRW to tow DO NOT exceed the max per tire weight for EACH tire. I was weighed with scale for each rear tire and they looked at the load rating of the tires...I had E rated tires, but they said if I had D tires I would have over weight for the tire and gotten a ticket. They also checked to see that I was not over the trucks GVRW. They said they rarely give a ticket for exceeding the trucks GVRW since it is easy to bolt on aftermarket gear to increase that number, but you cannot bolt on anything to increase the max weight your tires will carry.
