looked at the artic fox system and racor heated filter but do any of you heat the complete line???

 

I just have a Racor heated fuel filter.

 

check out the 3b hose from goldenfuelsystems.com. Also check out VEGPOWER.COM. The guy's name is Gregg and he's really cool. They have lots of fuel heating solutions.

In essence you wrap your fuel line in another line that is flowing with hot radiator fluid. Essential if you burn WVO, but not for straight biod(unless you want to burn bio in winter)

 

heat the tank and insulate the lines with wrap.

 

I have a 12 volt 200 watt heater blanket, heat exchanger in the front tank, 18 feet of hose on hose fuel line and a artic fox mid ranger coolent fuel heater.

 

Search on HIH (hose-in-hose). Can't remember which forum that I saw it on, but on one of the WVO forums, there is a guy advertising this stuff, and although it was made for the WVO guys, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt using it for BD too.

Then all you would have to do is keep your fuel tank insulated and heated!

 

I saw where a guy had a glow plug as a heated fuel filter won't it burn out???

 

I am in the process of installing components on my F250 6.9L, I bought a HotFox, and a Dahl heated filter assy. As far as heating the lines... I will recirculate my return line fuel, instead of having it simply dump back into the tank it will be return into the suction line near the tank. Since it just came from the hot IP it should keep things flowing. That combined with me wrapping the fuel lines between the 1/2" coolant lines going to and from the tank (HotFox) I think it will be enough since I have a IDI engine. I also have a return line that connects right after the filter assy.

I just fully completed my kit, and ran 200 miles today on SVO. I did the math - at highway speeds and current fuel costs I saved $3.63 every 18 minutes. God that feels good.
My heating system is made up of 4 parts.
Hot fox in tank heater/fuel pick up
12v filter wrap heater for the RACOR
Hot Fox Arctic Fox Themaliner
Hose in Hose from the Thermaliner to the engine.

I'm almost fully convinced that with the cold here in Maine that without the Thermaliner I wouldn't run hot enough.

Only thing left to do is install all the guages to keep tabs on things.

 

For $3,630 invested you save $3.63 every 18 minutes....
Out here on the left coast you have to have a $2oo annual

I'm continueing to add some new soy oil (10% or less)
to the tank in the name of lubricity.
I'm seeing that in a friends' community 150 miles down
the road that the Rotten Robbies places are now offering
B2 or maybe better... I'll try some off that in my 87' 6.9
IDI one o' these days to see if it runs quieter.

Maybe one of these years I'll be able to smell french
fries out my tail pipe, but I expect Santa won't be forth
coming this year!

actually - total investment was around $1600-1700. Not nearly $3600. But even if it had been - with the miles I drive annually I'd have paid for it by......oooohhhh, say Sept. That's quite a bit of "almost" free drivin'. And as for the 1,000,000 Bond... just one more reason to live on the "right coast". Joking aside - I imagine similar laws will be coming our way. I'll stay under the radar as long as humanly possible.

$1,000,000 BOND??? I just go to the back door and ask, usually they don't pay the service to take it, so they don't care who takes it as long as it's gone. $100 permit? I don't leave a mess and no one cares. Lowell, you MUST be talking about Cal-i-forni-gay. I can also buy less than food grade soy for about a buck a gal. No filtering or de-watering, just pour and go!

 

For us guy's running just Bio I don't think the heated lines is going to work without a second tank of dino to start and shut down with. That system won't keep the bio thats sitting in the lines from jelling when the trucks shut down over night. Once the trucks up to temp I believe it would work fine. But how do we keep the lines from jelling when, like in my case the truck is shut down for several day's in 0* temps.
