I am presently restoring a '68 Ranchero 500. One part I am missing is the fender "eyebrow" molding: approximately 5-7/8" long by 7/8" wide with center (painted) redline, I believe it is the same on both sides (LHS & RHS are the same) and may be found on '68 & '69 Fairlanes as well.

Any help is appreciated.

The right and left "eyebrow" moldings are not the same.

I knew that I should not used the word "eyebrow" molding: the piece I am looking for is part of the whole metallic strip that runs the length of both left and right hand sides of the vehicle (to prevent door dings). This piece is straight, mounts on the fender side, and is of the dimensions I previously stated (~5-7/8" x 7/8" with center painted red stripe). As far as I know, no vendors (including Dearborn Classics) carry this part.

You want a portion of the "body side" moldings.

1-C8OZ-16003-B .. Molding, Front Fender-Side Upper R/H

1-C8OZ-16004-B .. Molding, Front fender-Side Upper L/H

Same as all 1968 Fairlane/Torino's except body styles 54C, 65C which doesn't use this type. Rancheros: 1960 thru 1971 are body style 66.

1968 only, 1969 is different. Dearborn doesn't show these, Green Sales doesn't either. Where else to look: Hemmings Motor News (hemmings.com); ebay, or car swap meets.

 

I think the "spear" is all he's looking for but it probably only came on the complete fender moulding. I don't know of anyone who reproduces these mouldings.

I'll E-mail a friend the photo and see if he has them. I just sold him my last 2 68 Ranchero parts cars.

Yes, you have it correct: all I need is the far front end of the spear (last 5-7/8"); despite what the last poster says, both sides look identical (RHS or LHS). Am I correct on this?

Any help locating this part will be greatly appreciated!

The "last poster" was a Ford partsman when these cars rolled branny new into showrooms.

Where the *&%% do you think I found those Ranchero part numbers, from a crystal ball?

The info I posted came direct from the 1965/72 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog..and is correct. The end spear is part of the entire fender molding.

The moldings are not the same for both sides, they are RIGHT AND LEFT.

Eeeeeeeeeeasy Bill, he's new and isn't familiar with your parts expertise. I was a parts tech for 33 years, still ASE certified, and getting your toes stepped on goes with the territory sometimes. I'll have to admit that I didn't think there was any difference in the two sides either. But then, I removed them from mine so it didn't matter. Any idea how they're different?

 

I listed the part numbers, and gave him the references for those part numbers.

I even searched for them in my dearbornclassics catalog and on Green Sales' website.

Maybe I was a little harsh, but waiting on ppl at parts counters for 35 years tends to wear someone's patience down to the bone.

The angle of the moldings is ever so slightly different. If you put a left molding on the right fender, the red line will not line up correctly with the door's red molding line.

Way back when, we used to have a code when so and so customers gave us a hard time. After we spent time looking for a part with zero or wrong info, the customer then wanted a discount, saying..."I'm a friend of, or I work part time at Joe's garage." You know the spiel.

One of the parts guys would remark to no one in particular: 17080.

That meant: jack up the price, then give him 10% off.
