Among the FE's some of the 406's and all 427's had cross bolts. this is slightly different than 4 bolt mains since it has two bolts that go up into the block and two that come through the side skirts into the main caps which is not possible on the Lima (370/429/460) blocks or small blocks since they have no block skirt like the FE's
As a sidenote to what 427 said, some other FE blocks have the ability to be turned into a crossbolted main type motor. They just need to have the iron down there to tap into.
rat, some of the last 390s (73 to76) were cast with 3-webbed mains, they might have been made from FT molds. The lumps are there where the crossbolts go, but I've never seen a 390 with cross bolts unless the owner did it himself. Also, if an FE has crossbolts, you can see them from the outside above the oilpan rail. DF
In reading an article on stroking the new Triton motors, I see that the crossbolting idea is back. The cobra motors have 6 bolts, 4bolts from the bottom and two more crossbolted.
