Summer's gone
Hi everyone, summer is almost gone and I have not made a single FTE get together. A lot of things happened, went to Europe in August and then my brother's funeral in September which meant a trip to Arlington National Cemetary.
It was not to too terrible, he had been almost completely paralysed by strokes for quite a while. So it was one of those deals where it was really a relief when he went.
The upside of it was I have a bunch of kissin cousins on the east coast so I got to see them. A couple of dissin cousins too, but they are a small minority.
If there is any GTG's happening, in the north, I would like to know so post up any suggestions you might have.
Cheers, Bruce

Bruce, depending on circumstances, and weather, Oktoberfest at Carson Valley Inn might be something the wife and I are considering. I don't remember the entrance fee, but there is suppose to be lots of varieties of beer The RV park is nice and gives you a pass to the pool. Then, of course, there's the casino too. I would think that staying overnight would be the way to go if drinking lotsa beer.
Just a thought.

Well, Northern Nevada turns out to be the center of the universe! Is the Octoberfest this weekend too?
I have my mom with me. She is 88, and struggling a little with the altitude. So I have to do things she can cope with.
Maybe I could drop in to the Octoberfest for a few hours and go to Virginia City too.
When are the "outhouse races?" I mean heck, if it's racing, that's got to be a good thing! And who can't relate to an outhouse?
I will do a search on both of these events. Thanks!

Bruce, when you do your search for Oktoberfest, I think you need to use a "K" in the spelling. The search engine will probably still produce results, but when I was surfing earlier for Oktoberfest events I noticed that most of them were spelled with the K.
I think it is scheduled to occur the weekend of October 19, but not sure.

The outhouse races are Saturday and Sunday at noon. They have a parade on Saturday. I believe the rules state it must be pushed by a team of 4 people and have one on the 'seat'. They have everything from converted 'blue rooms' to custom built loos. They have interesting names as well. One that I remember from last year had a picture of the governator on it and was called 'The Urinator', there was also one that looked sort of like a rickshaw and was 'Kung Fu Poo' or something like that. They had matching t-shirts!
I'm sure it's snowing up there today (it is here in Reno, too) but it's supposed to be nice the rest of the weekend, but probably cool up in VC. Here's a link to their events page, scroll down and you'll find it.

Don't forget, Oktoberfest is this Friday at CVI. It's fitty bucks!!! Actually, I thought that was pricy but thought about it and it aint too bad, really. That includes lots of German Sausages, Kraut, Red Cabbage, Schnitzels (sp), and other German specialty dishes. Then there's the beer and the German band. Sounds like a kick.
