Hi all. I have a new-to-me 360 that has had a weird no-start condition recently. Actually, it started acting up the 3rd time I drove it...
After looking over a few things I am at trying to find out what the points gap is supposed to be on these. For whatever reason there was no gap on this truck currently and that doesn't seem right.
The search function seems to have disappeared from the forums and I tried searching on google with no luck. Does anybody know off hand what the gap is?

.017 with point rub arm on top of dist lobe.

 

As mentioned, .017 will get the job done, (.016-.018)....But, 30 degreees of dwell,(28 to 32 degrees) is more accurate and doesn't require a nasty, dirty, oily feeler gage inside the contacts.

 

An old trick that always works is a matchbook cover. Has worked for me on my 68 F250.

 

thanks guys. I had it about 0.014 and it started, but it was running really rough. I will re-gap them tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

 

does the points have any white powder or pits on the contacts? if so they will need replacing. get a quality set, seems these days thats hard to do.

 

yeah - points were bad and I couldn't tell until I took them out today to put in the fresh set that I found in a bag of parts that came for the truck.

Truck now starts up and idles nicely, but runs pretty rough at low RPS when I don't have my foot in it. The more gas I give her and the faster I go it smooths out a bit, so it seems I still have a bit of tuning to do.
