Hello All
Today I Want To Use My Timing Light To Set My Ignition Timing On My 1996 F-150 4.9l. Do I Have To Disconnect Any Thing? Like In The Old Days When You Somtimes Had To Disconnect The Vacuum Advance. My Truck Has No Vacuume Advance So Im Wodering If There Is An Electronic Connector To Pull Prior To Changing The Timing. The Remainder Of Task I Know. Thanks

 

the spout is a plug you need to remove.

it is right around the distributer and is usually grey.

10 degrees btdc is the setting you should set to with spout out.

Spout As In Connector? I See Two Diferent Connectors Small Type One Comes Off The Coil, The Other Goes To The Block. Im Still At Least 100 Degrees Off Using The #1 Spark Plug Wire For The Pickup. Thanks For Getting Me Started.

 

Check for a plug w/a grey connector at the ICM (Ignition Control Module), which might be fender mounted (driver's side) on your truck.

 

this is a good time to buy a manual.

Wait. I have a 96 and the spout is NOT near the distributer. It drove me nuts. It is by the driver side hood hinge, and it has two pink wires going into it. You have to pull the gray plug from the end of it and don't lose it.
