Steering Box

I have a 1982 F150, with a 300ci 6 , rear wheel drive only and it has manual steering that is worn out. I tried to get a rebuild kit from NAPA but they don't list one. Anybody know where to get a rebuild kit?

I could also get a manual steering box from the junk yard if I can find one. Does anybody know what year and model of Ford I can get a steering box from that will interchange with my F150. Can I use a Bronco steering box if it is manual steering? Thanks for your help.

Parts for manual steering gearboxes are usually sold piece by piece. That means the individual sector shaft: bushings and the gasket and seal; the input shaft bearing and races, are available from Ford or NAPA. If you need a new worm and sector or input shaft, those items are Ford dealer only (I doubt they are still available for a 1980's model).

As original:

E2TZ-3504-A .. Manual Steering Gear Box ~ Fits: 1981 to 3/83 F100/350. After 3/83 (March 1983), a different box is called for.

Not used on Bronco's.

the 1980 steering box directly interchanges with all ford truck steering boxes (f150, 250, 250, ranger, broncoII, bronco, explorer) from 1980-1996. I doubt you could get manual steering much after 1985, but the boxes WILL bolt up.

It may just be worth it to pick up a power box and pump as they cost less together than just getting a new or rebuilt manual gear box.

Yes, why torture yourself. Now's the time to convert to power steering. The only bad thing is you might have to change the pulleys on the front of the engine.

Hi, I would agree and say why not power? Parts should not be hard to find. Here where I am at I have never seen one that was not power. If you have trouble getting the parts give me a yell and I will try to help. The big part would of course be the box, that I dont think you would want to ship, but most of the other parts should not be to bad as far as shipping. If you are anywhere near hear, I have a box that is perfect. I live in clay city, KY."Natural Bridge Area". e-mail~~~momanning@mikrotec.com~~~

Finally took your advice. Went to the closest Pick & Pull wrecking yard and got the cleanest power steering pump with bracket, power steering box and hoses off of a later model F150 that I could find. Bolted it on and all is good. Didn't have to change the pulley. Very easy change over all for 75 bucks. Don't use this truck that much but it is nice to have one that steers straight and doesn't wander all over the road because of a worn out steering box. Yep the power is nice too.
