I don't know, but I would like to have one. You would think it would be almost a must for a high end SUV, but the 2008 Expedition does not list it in the advertising yet.
I mean they have had these on trash trucks, motor homes and buses for several years already, so you would think by now Ford would at least offer one as an option for an Expedition or Gator.

2008 models have it in the rearview mirror. We should be able to buy the parts (mirror, cam, etc) and add it to ours soon.

I have a 08 with the camera, you can see it here

http://baumbach.com/Expedition.htm

It is a small image in the rearview mirror only about 2.5 inches, I have seen a GM that has the image in the much larger about 8 inch navigation screen which I liked much better, easier to see.

If I had a 07 I would be after one that would make use of the Navigation screen and not the rearview mirror

My problem with the screen not in the mirror is I would have to look down at it and I am much more used to looking in my rearview mirror, I agree the screen is small but for me it works great because I don't have to look 2 places when backing. It works well enough that I can see if someone came behind me or if there is something I am going to hit.

Got-R-Done boyz.

I purchased the VR3 Wireless Backup Camera from Wally World online, click on the picture.

The main reason I wanted a camera was for hooking up to the boat, which I do constantly.

I mounted the screen in the sunglass holder and wired it to the "On Demand Light Circuit."

I mounted the camera on the license plate frame with some L-brackets that I adjusted so it would focus on the ball. I wire it to the license plate lights.

So when I want to use it, all I do is turn on the parking lights.

This little thing works great!!

I just went to Lowes and found some swivel L-brackets. Now I can move the camera up and down.

Thats really a nice setup.

Last week I was at the shopping mall and was starting to back out of the parking space, when shifting to reverse, the reverse sensor started beeping. I thought "oh great, guess that thing has gone crazy now" as I did not see any thing behind me. Then about that time in the side mirror I seen a little girl that must have been running ahead of her mother. This option just paid for it's self many times over.

I know this is an old thread, but I too was curious about retrofitting the backup camera to my 08 Expy. I asked the dealership if it was possible and they said that they could not do the factory option, but provided a Ford approved aftermarket unit that utilizes the nav screen instead for $1100. That's expensive, especially compared to the factory price of $495. I don't see why the factory unit couldn't be retrofitted unless the dealer just wants to make money. Does anyone here know for sure whether or not a factory unit could be purchased and installed?

If you are talking about the factory option where the camera is in the mirror, you can in fact add that on by purchasing an aftermarket GENTEX camera (rumored to be the same company who manufactures them for Ford) and a backup camera to mount on your license plate for far less than the 1100 you are being quoted. (check www.mgtmotorsports.com) That would have been my only option, since I do not have the NAV system in my Expy. Installation did not look to be too difficult (I used to install higher end audio systems) however the ~400 for the mirror + ~150 for a quality camera turned me off from that idea.

I ended up buying the VR3 camera from wal-mart and installed it in less than an hour, including running the camera wiring through the existing boot in the hatch over to one of the reverse lights, and wiring the monitor into the fuse panel, up the a-pillar and next to the mirror. I did buy a blendmount from MGT to mount my dashhawk on - this may also prove to be a suitible location to mount the vr3 display. For now, I have it velcro taped to a old universal radar detector mount. For $100 for the kit, I can't complain. Try it, if you don't like it you can always take it back.

Does this camera need to be turned on and off? How is it at night?
