4x4 control module (4x4 flash problem)
If you have replaced a 4x4 module in your explorer, please chime in on this thread. I am trying to load up with ammo before I begin discussions with ford on who should replace this junk they put in our vehicles. We shouldn't be the ford field testers when we pay what we do for these vehicles. Last I checked field testers got paid to test.
When posting please note your model year and when the module was replaced.
BTW recent repairs to my 02 include,
tranny at 70K, new transfer case shift motor, new 4x4 control module, new timing chain, new front wheel bearing/hub, new rear wheel bearing/hub.
Just thought I'd put the repairs in there incase anyone wants to know why I and going to have a chat with FMC
Thanks

My truck will engage the 4x4 but only occasionally. If the 4x4 light flashes it will not go into 4x4. Have you selected 4x4 high rather than Auto? If you put it in high you should feel the front binding when you turn sharp on dry pavement. The Auto will not kick in until the sensors that sense the driveshaft rpms senses a shaft turning faster than the other (for example when your tires spin in the snow or on Ice) It sounds to me like your transfer case shift motor could be at fault.

02 exploder 4x4CM
Can someone tell me where they found the 02 exploder 4x4 control module online. I wasn't able to find it. I'd like not to have to buy one for $400 from the dealer. I sympathize with the last thread, I've already done tranny (70K also). Just waiting for the clunking rear end to fall out. FORD PN 1L24-7H473-AD or Motorola 01MU152B02. Cheers

It's my understanding that, in my case, the flashing indicated that the computer module (don't know which one) could not determine what 4wd position the xfr case was in because the xfr case motor did not move fully. This left the xfr case sort of in between. In my case I was stuck in 4wd hi. After my cleaning I switched to 4wd lo and it worked, then 4wd hi, again ok, then to 4wd auto. Worked ok. 97 XLT
