I was wondering if anybody had any good suggestions of adding seat belts to a 1961 Econoline pickup. I have the original low back seats and brackets. It does not look hard to add on the side next to the door frame but the side next to the engine compartment is very close. Thanks for any info.

 

I put seat belts in my econo. Just lap belts mind you. I used the bolts where the seats bolt to the tube frame that the seats sit on and the wheel well. The wheel well put large washers inside the wheel well. The dodge van seatbelts fromn a 70's van work nice up against the doghouse. The ey are already bent upwards so they clear the doghouse.
As for shoulder seat belts I have not tried. When I restore the truck I know my wife will want them. So I think it can be fabricated in.

 

Thanks 66gpw for the info. I put some generic ones in a 1967 VW beetle (lap/shoulder) that I was thinking about using on this the only problem is the latch part is just the belt material and if it falls between the seat and doghouse it will be a pain to pull back out. I am thinking of putting some velcro on the doghouse and latch so it won't fall down when you take it off. I will let you know if it works.

 

I just got use to it falling by the doghouse. But I see now that will be a problem when I get my truck restored. I'm not as young as I was. So I will probally look for something that can keep the belt up than falling down ny doghouse. The next problem is trying to get a seat belt bolted to the B pillar of my trucks. It will be one of those retractable types that incorporate the shoulder and lap together.

 

I don't know if it will fit, due to the wheel well height and width of the seat, but the Chevy Silverado 2002 model ? has intrical lap & shoulder seat belt built right into the seat.
I'm not ready to look into yet, but may be a possibilty, with cutting and hacking ?
