Head removal on a 5.4L
<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">Can the pasenger side head be replaced without removing engine? Can a piston be replaced on a 5.4L without removing the engine? I am contemplating purchasing a truck with a valve or piston issue and trying to get a feel for the repair time. Is it easier to remove the cab to remove heads and/or the engine like I have heard? (vs pulling the engine out the front)
Thanks,

Well it IS POSSIBLE to replace a piston with the engine in the bay..... you'll have to unbolt the tranny and engine mounts and actually jack or lift the engine up as far as possible to deal with oil pan clearance....It really isn't TOO much more trouble to just pull the engine, and after that, everything is MUCH easier..... Removing the heads is something I would go ahead and leave the engine in place for unless you were just feelin' frisky
