How many miles will 5.4 go?
I recently past 150k in my F150 5.4L 2WD company truck without a single problem. None of the infamous "piston slap", "head gasket leak", etc. that seems to get blown way out of proportion.
I have all the regular maintenance taken care of by our company equipment mechanic. I have a pretty heavy foot (I also plain run the H*LL out over her from time to time as well)
I usually get a replacement at about 150k but this one still looks very good so far, still plenty strong, the rest of the truck looks and works close to showroom condition. Might just have to run her longer.

How many miles will 5.4 go?
I service four trucks at the shop with the 5.4 Triton in them. They are only half tons but the guy pulls cattle and gooseneck trailers with all four of them. They all have around 200,000 to 250,000 miles on them and the only thing they needed were spark plugs and oil changes.

How many miles will 5.4 go?
I drive a Ford van, E-350 15 passenger for a company that needs employees to be transported 50+ miles to work. The first van we had was a '99 E-350 15 pass. with the 5.4. It got driven 405 miles per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Each run was for about 3 hours. The core of the engine never really cooled down as the reading from the temp. gauge showed on each startup for the run. The maintenance was oil at every 5800 miles/two weeks and fix what broke. The trans was serviced at 80,000, 310,000, and 430,000. Normal things that wear out were done as needed. That van had the following major things go wrong...At 340,000 miles, the alternator died. Got a new one and kept on going. At 472,000 miles, the in-tank fuel pump went out. That was on a Fri. night in a small town. No way to get it on the road so the boss bought me a new '02 and put it in service the next day. We sold the '99 with 472,000 miles on the drive train with only those two breakdowns. Ran 16 mpg to start, got 15 mpg upon selling. Got $8500.00 for it. The rest of the van looked like new. Yep, my new van is the same and my '01 F150 Lariat 4X4 Off Road has the same motor.

How many miles will 5.4 go?
Got 137000 on my 97 Expy with the 5.4. The Da*n thing runs just as strong as a new one! I love it! Getting about 17/19 MPG and no problems. Oil is changed every 3000 miles with 5W30 Castrol non synthetic, just had to put front shocks on it, but it only ran about $35 for Monroe gas matics. Tow a trailer for side business remodeling houses. What more can I say, The thing is awesome!

How many miles will 5.4 go?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Oct-02 AT 04:43 PM (EST)]hi guys just thought I would chime in, my fathers company has a few e-250 5.4 and these vans run all day every day at about 70mph so we easily do 150000-200000 a year we have a 2001 that’s got about 250000 on it, now for the story on the oil. up until about a year ago we didn’t have the greatest maintenance tracking program so thing would get missed (oil changes etc.) and we take all are vans to Indy lube cause we get a better deal than doing it our self’s so anyways they keep records on that so when we took it in one time the records said that it had gone 60000miles!!!!! safe to say I didn’t believe it been when they showed me the condition of the oil i was stunned had everyone in the place looking at it said it was the
"worst they ever saw" (still think it was a flaw it the records but that oil was bad if you touched it it would follow your finger like hot glue) so I think its a good engine
P.s. still running sweet
