Thanks for the welcome preppypyro.

I am a novice mechanic by necessity, I fumble my way through what needs to be fixed. Good to know there are local guys if i really get myself into a jam (I trade beer for help ).

Owned mostly fords, not sure why just happend that way.

1986 Mustang LX 4cy 4 spd (My First car)
Looked real nice, but it was a 4cy.

1987 Mustang LX 5.0L 5spd
My first taste of power. Ported & pollished, subframe connectors, pully's, K&N, battery relocated, exaust.
Ran her into a parked car, had insurance fix it and sold it.

1991 Mustang GT 5.0L 5Spd
Loaded, stock engine, never had the funds to fix it up.
Didnt want to give this car up, but I drove it only 1-2 days a month, sold it to buy a truck and ATV.

Current Vehicals :

1979 F-250 4x4
Rust bucket to haul my ATV around. Its rusty but a solid truck, 351M, Auto, D60 front and rear. Pics in gallery.

1995 Toyota 4Runner SR5
V6, Auto, 4x4. Great SUV, amazing shape for its age, daily driver for my wife.

2006 Yamaha Kodiak 450
My toy and currently the most expensive vehical I own, and i cant even drive it on the road

 

Thats funny what you said last about your yamaha. Good to have a member close too. I live in agassiz myself.

Well I just realised my username on Quads is PaulH, not sure why I deviated from my usual lunaticfreak. But yea, havent posted too much on Quads.ca, wish I had more time to participate in the community and the group rides.
Told myself I would go to Larson this year but the dates didnt work. I did get out the Herrling with a few of the guys last year.

 

I dont own a quad, yet. I am looking to purchase a couple of quads though. Latest thing I looked at was a pair of can am 500 4x4's. They are pretty nice and all, but im just undecided how they would suit my type of riding. I am more into the hardcore trail riding then anything.

For now I just borrow my dads suzi 300 king quad.

Yeah, more time to ride would be great. I did ride yesterday, and am thinking of going next Saturday as well.

Preppy, the Can-Am's are nice machines. Usually the fastest in their class, excellent engine braking, and the 3-year warranty is awesome. I haven't tried a 500 yet, but have tested the Outlander 400, 800, and 650 (and the Renegade 800). The 500 shares the suspension with the 400, and shares the base engine with the 650/800. I love the sound of the V-twin! The 2008's have a faster-engaging Visco-lock, and improved sealing for the CVT case. The SST frame appears to be the weak point; several have done in their frames after striking a stump or similar unmoving object, or after a roll. The 650/800 have a heat issue with the plastic in proximity to the exhaust (ie. the bottom of the seat) melting, so that may be an issue with the 500 as well. One thing I don't like is that they only have one hand-brake lever which controls both front and rear brakes, rather than two separate levers.

Not sure if this is relevant for your situation, but have you looked at a side-by-side rather than 2 quads? The Polaris RZR is only 50" wide, the same width as my Rincon with 26" XTRs. Check out the video I shot, if you haven't already seen it.

It's great to be able to talk with your passenger, and have some cargo space for your gear and a cooler, all while being no wider than a regular quad. If you're sold on a Cam-Am, I expect that they'll be coming out with their side-by-side soon, and hopefully it'll be a narrow machine and not a wide-body like the new Kawasaki.

Im more of a one person to a quad kind of guy. I was actually worried the can ams would be too fast for my kind of riding. I like doing alot of tougher climbs and crap like that.
