Kara's Illness...

As I touched on in my other post, some of you may have noticed Saturday that Kara's face was swollen.... and what stated out as a simple pimple has progressed into something quite a bit more serious.

She first began to swell on Friday and by the time Saturday came around, it was getting pretty bad but not anything we were overly concerned about. Well, Sunday morning we awoke to something more serious. I took her to the urgent care center down the road and they said she had an absese (sp?) on her cheek. Short story long, he lanced it open (I was surprised how deep he cut it), and drained what he could, packed it and sent us home with some antibiotics and loretabs and asked us to come back Monday. We went back today, and unfortionately it just seemed to have gotten worse, she was more swollen than yesterday. He said it could be pretty serious, possibly leading to a trip to the ER for a CT scan (yeah, like we can afford that... ) or he could give her a shot and send her home with more, very expensive antibiotics. I kind of thought she should just go ahead and go to the ER, but she decided she wanted to try these pills first. He agreed, but told me that if she begins to have severe fevers, I need to take her to the ER asap. Anyway, if you can't tell from the grammar and the way this is written, I've been up for quite some time. Obviously, I'm scared to death. She's been throwing up all day, even with all of these pills.

Anyway, I'll try to write more at a later time, but if any of you wish, you're welcome to call my cell and I'll update you.

Sorry to hear that. I hope everything turns out OK.

Any chance she could have been bitten by a spider or something? That sounds like what happened to my arm and hand the two times I was bitten. Is the med she's on Cefzil?

Thanks Silver. We went to see an ear, nose and throat specialist today who said he believes it could have been a brown recluse bite. Not sure which is correct (staph, spider bite or both), but as long as she gets better quickly, it doesn't matter to me. She is doing much better though, the swelling and redness has reduced considerably and she has gotten her color back (mainly because she's no longer throwing up anymore) and when I asked her what she wanted for lunch today she told me Rib Crib.

We probably still have a few more days of this left, but thankfully she's doing much better than she was a few days ago.

Who would have thought something that seemed so minor could turn into something that could potentially be lifethreatening???

So you've been bit twice by a brown recluse??? Glutten for punishment...? She isn't on Cefzil, but she is on so many different drugs that our medicine cabinett is beginning to look like a pharmacy.

Pain: Lortab and IBprofin
Neasea (sp?): Phenogram
Antibiotics: Augmentin, Biaxin and an antibiotic cream for the wound.
Along with two or three other booster shots the doctor has given her.

I've been bitten at least twice. Those two were the only times I had a severe reaction to the bites. I think I've been bitten a few more times, but I'm not sure. Since the symptoms weren't as bad it's hard to say for sure. They weren't nearly as bad after the first two. When you grow up out in the sticks things like that happen frequently.

(I need to get on the forum more often.) Wow. I'm sorry to hear that Kara had to go through all that pain and agony. Yeessh. That sounds scary. Glad to hear she's doing better. I wonder if any of the meds added to her nausea and vomitting? I know that my wife is very sensitive to any of those pain and antibiotic pills. She has a hard time keeping them and her meals down when she takes that stuff. Keep us posted, and if there's anything ya'll need, don't hesitate to give me a call.

Glad Kara is doing better, that kind of stuff can be deadly if not treated, had an uncle spend two weeks in the hospital because of staph, he had a small pimple on his chest and that was the only sine of the infection and it about killed him.
