Comp cams 5.4 camshafts?

Anybody install Comp cams 5.4 camshafts on their truck? I'm curious about the power increase because comp now makes a camshaft for the V10 but they are just the cores. You have to tell them the lift and duration and so forth. I figured if any of you guys had these cams installed on your 5.4 and were happy with the results that the V10 would respond even better. Thanks

Unless you're going to change the intake manifold-you're wasting time and will actually hurt the power and torque output of the engine by changing cams to something with more duration.

JL

I have stated before that Reichard Racing will make 2 adapter plates and you can use either a bullet or regular p.i intake from a mustang gt. Either of these intakes can flow a good amount of air and will help the 5.4 benefit from a good set of ported heads and a cam set up for towing/hauling. I wouldnt want more duration at all because that would steal low end torque, I woud go with a bit more lift and mabe a 116 lsa.

Summit racing sells the comp cams for this and they are not blanks. You pay 539.00 for the cams, 189.00 for the bee hive springs and you also need to get the pcm recalibrated. You can expect to gain 36-41 hp and 38-50 FT pounds of torque according to comp cams. This would be a good upgrade if you planned on putting a blower on it but by itself is not a very cost effective upgrade.

Those numbers are at the crank on a dyno setup engine, and they ARE NOT using a Truck intake manifold. I've got the 270AH cams in my Tbird, and it's a 10.7:1CR built engine with ported heads, bullitt intake, headers, etc, etc, etc. I only picked up about 20 hp peak, and 15-20 ft-lbs. I've got a 4000 rpm stall speed converter in the car,and it could use 200-300 more rpms of stall, speed to make it launch best-if I put this in a truck-it'd be a pig with any kind of torque converter setup for towing, and especially if you're gonna use that terribly restrictive truck intake.

JL,

The cams were installed using a truck intake. I assume you are talking about the cams for the old 2v 4.6 and 5.4 engines. I was talking about the brand new 3v 5.4 cam sets comp has out now. The 6.8 cams are set to launch in Oct of this year.

For a 3V,that's about right. The original poster was asking about his '01 model-which is a 2V.

With a set of Patriot ported heads and cams I made 38 RWHP on the dyno.
That was with no blower and a stock 5.4 2V intake manifold.
It wasn't quit worth the 2000 dollars I spent! lol
