Talking Travel trailer to car hauler

i ahve the oppurtunity to pick up a 25-30 foot long travel trailer. This is not a mobile home but a travel trailer that is emnt to be trailered around constantly. I want to convert it to a car hauler to haul around a full size pick up. I read alot about mobile homes that they arent good trailers but I believe that a travel trailer would be a better candidate because it has to be built stronger because it is constantly being towed. The trailer have dual axels, and I am presuming that they have brakes on the axels. Would this traielr be able to tow a 6-7 thousand pund truck. would any modifications need to be made to the frame. I plan on putting a 2x6 decking on it also. Any suggestions would be very, very helpful Jon

I would think some of the trailer strength would come from the TT shell also, you would loose some of that strength.

How about building a frame, and just using the axles.

Frame rails will probably be narrower than required therefore needing to add support to widen. Trailer frame will probably carry the weight and most travel trailers have electric brakes. Also ramp angle might be excessive without dove-tailing the rear of the frame. Lot of work involved in my opinion. Hope you are getting it donated to you.

Not trying to be a smartelec, but why not just sell the TT and buy a car hauler? Be easier, safer and maybe less money involved

In my semi-professional opinion as an RV Service tech I would say it's a bad idea, travel trailers aren't made to carry that kind of weight, A whole travel trailer frame and that size would probably weigh no more than 6500 lbs including the frame, and all the weight of the trailer itself is distributed evenly. The frame design is all wrong. Even though it's a tandem axle trailer and there should be brakes on both axles the position of the axles is more forward than a car trailer, which will cause a really bad tow.
