Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a wiring diagram to locate where the DRL module would/should be. I need to get these activated for Canada. Can someone help? Is it still somewhere behind the drivers headlight?

I don't have a diagram that late. You could check www.helminc.com for a factory diagram, or maybe find one on ebay.

Does this have to be an official "drl" or can you just wire up the lowbeams to run all the time?

Vehicles that came without drl's have to be converted? Is that after a certain year? Certainly they would not require drl's on say a 53 ford f100?

 

yup any vehicle that's manufactured after 95' for Canada. I see that the wiring looks like it's all in place, I need to plug in two relays and a resistor, I'm just not sure where the resister goes....

 

In 2005 they show it behind the driver's side headlight. On one side it has a red/black wire and on the other side it has orange/lighttgreen

 

Thanks Franklin2. I've searched all over there and I can't see the two wires/plug for the resistor. Can you see in the diagram where these two wires go? The colors are the same that the ford service guy told me to look for. If I can determine where they originate from I may be able to add that harness in.

In the 2005 diagram, the daytime running lamps have their own fuse in the fuse box under the dash. From the the fuse it runs to a drl relay in a aux fuse box located on the driver's side fender. Coming out of the relay it goes to the resistor. From the resistor it taps into the lowbeam wire, which goes all the way back to the fuse box where there are individual fuses for each lowbeam light. It splits and goes to each fuse, and then from those fuses it feeds each lowbeam light.

 

thanks Franklin2. I've decided to go a differnet route. The delaer suggested a Cole Hersee DRL kit which I have purchased. Trouble is, I need to find a good place (under the hood) to tap into:

1) Low beam wire
2) High beam wire
3) 12V Switched
4) Parking Brake switch
5) 12V unswitched

Would you be able to help me out with that? I had a look but the wires are all pretty tightly wrapped and I didn't want to start unwrapping until I know where to look.

I would imagine the best place to tap into the low beam and the highbeam would be the fuse box.(I think it was the underdash fuse box. ?. ). That is if you just need those signals, and do not need to cut into and break the circuit. They make fuse taps in the store were you just unplug the fuse, slide the tap onto the fuse, and plug it back in. It leaves a tab that you can use a slip on connector to hook to. There were two fuses for the lowbeams and one for the highbeams.

The 12 volt unswitched can also be had in either fuse box. I am not sure you are going to find switched power in the underhood fuse box, but you surely can in the underdash fuse box. And of course the parking brake switch will be over on the parking brake mechanism.
