a/c problem in Las Vegas

I have a 07 EL 4x4 and I live in Las Vegas. Needless to say it gets hot here, 108 today. My EL will not cool. If it is idling the air coming out of the vents hovers around 70 to 80 degrees. Once I get going on the freeway the temp of the air goes down to about 60 degrees. I have taken it to the dealer to be looked at and they told me everything is normal.

Anyone else have an 07 in LV? If so how does your a/c work?

At idle you will not not have full air flow through the condensor. The rule of thumb for any R134a system is about 30 degrees cooler than outside temp. Did you have it on max a/c?

How are you measuring the air coming out? I have used an infared temperature gauge and they are pretty accurate. Here is one.

a/c in vegas

Thanks for the interest. Yes I had it on max position (including recirc). I used an a/c therm to mearsure the temp of the air coming out of the vents.

take it to a reputable automotive A/C shop and let them look at it.

my guess is the system is either short charged or has non-condensibles in the system which would require a complete evacuation and recarge of the A/C system.

I personally don't trust dealership technicians when it comes to A/C systems in automobiles.

just my $.02

My wife has taken our truck into the dealer 3 times for this same problem, what we found.

Our old 04 Expedition was an XLT so we did not have the auto temp, and it always blew very cold!

The dealer filled the system with R134a to full, they said sometimes the factory did not fill it enough.

My wife would always turn the auto temp down to 60 degrees right when she got in the truck. She said the truck would not cool down, just blow kind of warm air on high fan!

After a couple times to the dealer, we (they) figured out that, when you turn the temp down to 60, it puts the system into Max recirculate air. This is not good because the compressor freezes up? The manual does not say this anywhere??

So ,she now only turns the temp down to 68 and the truck does seems to cool much better! We went to lake Powell at 104 and the truck seemed to cool down in a mile or so, to bearable temps!

putting it on 60 degree's will "NOT" make it cool faster, the compressor system can only remove so many BTU'S per hour, when they cut on they are running wide open, they run full on or full off,the 30 degree's below the outside temp is right on and that's in the shade, heat gain through the glass will push temp's higher, like being in a greenhouse you had a 104 outside temp, the other post had 108,jeez that's hot,the other day here in florida we were at 98 and I set our's (2007 EX) on 74 and after a couple mile's had to turn the blower's down, was down right chilly.

Its been over 110°F here in AZ, and at idle the A/C isn't performing all that great. Electric fans would help out with this problem. Does anyone know what the Ford test specifcation is for A/C temperature vs Outside temperature?
