And more to the point... rushing an engine to launch???

 

Wasn't the launch delayed a few months???

At least it's a non-interference motor, which is rare for a Japanese motor; yes??

But I'd still be pissed to have such a major repair early on.

It was... but (as what happens in these cases) problems still occured. The 6.0l PSD was delayed originally too...

Most (non-diesel) Toyota's are "free-spinners"... I know the 4.7 isn't, the DOHC 1.8 and the 2JZ-GE, but I think the rest of them are...

 

Kind of an irony there..........you'd think timing belt motors SHOULD be non-interference..........not so important on a timing chain motor.


Learned the hard way on an old Acura 4 cylinder.......changed the belt only to learn.....whats a bent valve??

Previously had done an early Escort timing belt, no problems there.

 

Automotive News first reported this last year. One of the reasons the introduction was delayed till February. From what I've read, none of the engines that had defective camshafts were sold to the public. The problem was discovered long before the introduction of the truck.


I find it ironic that the few problems that have affected this truck have been reported by GM, who has tie ins with Toyota...OnStar (used by Lexus) and NUMMI being two examples.

 

I didn't link the Auto news article, because you have to be a subscriber to see...

But it is a problem in the field. It has occured on up to 20 vehicles thusfar, and Toyota is determining how many of the 30,000 Tundra's sold with the 5.7 may have to be recalled.

I dont care what brand it is. Dont buy a new model the first year, epecially one with a completely new powertrain. The only Toyota timing belt issue I ever had was on a SOHC Corolla, and it was, fortunately, non-interference. She just drove it unitl it stopped, at 140,000 miles on the original belt!

I wonder if the recall will make the news (when they figure out which ones to recall). The flame thrower 6.4 was all over the news.

 

I know news is regional..........but I did not see one news report on the 6.4 recall......everything I saw about it was on-line.

The Toy ball joint recall was on the news here where an FTE member claimed he never saw it.

In fact, I'm the one telling people in my circle......Cummins and Dmax owners.

(the Cummins owner is drooling over the 450......advised him to wait a tad)

 

Seems like they got it taken care of so far(the psd). Hopefully yota will do the same with the 5.7.

We will see what happens with the news reports I guess. This could be quite costly for yota if they have to recall any mass amount of the engines..

 

That article shows the HUGE difference in philosphies between Ford and Toy.

The text claimed Toy is replacing ENTIRE motors if affected....(I'd still be annoyed)

Ford would dick with it multiple times, getting a rep involved, yelling and screaming before a replacement would be authorized.

I know I posted this story here - but I am sure you can imagine this story going around the Chevy/Ford/Dodge loving people like wildfire - "dem 'yota's can't even keep a camshaft in 'em"
Sales would dry up over night...


Ford (unfortunately) has the luxury of being able to stuff around, infuriate an owner here or there - but still be seen as the greatest truck in the world by those loyal to it...

 

Hard to debate that.....ESPECIALLY considering how blindly loyal people can be.


Even though I've strayed concerning new cars.....VW, Lexus...it would be very strange actually buying a new truck that was not a Ford.

they already are in the pickup market, pickups, t-100's, tundras, and the best of them all, tacoma, has done very well.

toyota will take care of the defect, and every company has defects on new designs.

people on top get hopped on quicker when something like this happens.

and to the guy who posted about the warranty service between the to companies about having a pissing match with ford to get something done, i agree, i havnt even brought in my new ranger to deal with shi*** a$$ fuel milage that im getting, nor the chopper sound im getting behind my vents, when the air is on.

im not going to pay someone to take a leaf out for me (if thats the issue, i wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt), nor am i going to take apart my car to get there, (nor do i know how).
