You might take this to the dedicated 99-03 7.3L Diesel section, but injectors can be a failure point. I'd take a good look at the high pressure oil system, fuel pressure, fuel pickup in the tank, and make sure the filter is good before I'd suspect multiple injector failures. If you have access to someone with AE (AutoEnginuity), it can tell you volumes about what's going on...
EDIT: Forgot to mention -- when injectors fail, you can get oil in the fuel filter, so look for that, too.
with me on my 6.0 it was running very rough, sounded like my engine was about to jump out of the hood. and i had an extremely harsh vibration at a certain rpm, like a wheel was about to come off.
That does sound injector'ish but before committing to replacing one or more Ohm out the Under Valve Cover Harnesses. The 01's and earlier had an inferior connector on the inside and it can come loose.
For personal knowledge, can these injectors be easily pulled and cleaned? I have pulled and cleaned many injectors on gas engines, but those are a bit different due to the lower fuel pressure.
Not as easy to pull or clean. The HEUI system uses high pressure motor oil (~3000psi) ti drive the injector. Here is a little education on the injectors. http://www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/injector.htm
To check the harness ohm it at the Valve cover connector on the outside.
Pin Out
G G I I C I I G G
G=Glow Plug +
I = Injector +
C= Injector Common
***The injectors fire with a 115VDC signal from the IDM do not pierce to wires to test.***
Ohm between "I" and "C" to test the injectors, should be less than 5.0 Ohms
To check glow plugs Ohm between "G" and battery ground should be between 0.1 and 2.0 Ohms
WHen the TC locks up into 4th gear, does the truck shake when giving it a little fuel, then if you mash the foot to the floor is kinda goes away and if you let up does it go away?
