Making your own BD mix

Is it possible to make your own BD? For example, can I make B50 by using 50% diesel and 50% veggie oil I purchase in bulk from Sam's Club? Would I need to filter the oil first or could I just pour it in the tank?

TIA

No you have to convert the oil to biodiesel first before you can mix it and make b50. most say you can't mix straight vo with #2 cause it won't stay mixed.

B50 is not made by mixing #2 diesel and Vegetable oil.
It is made by mixing #2 diesel and Biodiesel.

Burning unheated VO is not recommended, it will eventually destroy your engine. If you want to burn VO convert your truck and do it right.

If you dont want to convert your truck stick with Biodiesel, it isn't that hard to make.

There are those that swear you can blend VO with any number of fuels and burn it unheated, some of them hang out here; however, science does not support them and the risks are great, you could lose your motor.

Thanks to all for your replies....

I guess it's not as easy as missing regular gasoline (ie. 87 octane with 91 octane). I just assumed that the diesel engine would not know the difference between VO and Diesel if you poured both in the tank. (I'm not a chemist, biologist, etc)

Thanks for clearing it up! I'll stick to the Biodiesel as soon as a station opens up near me.
