Pole Building

Looking to put up a 40x60 or close to it. If I start on it in the next month or so I can put it anywhere I want on my property with no permits. But once they put in the zoning laws I will be hosed by set back laws. So I need to get started now on a budget.

Any of you know where I can get some old power poles for either free or very cheap??? They need to be about 20 foot long or longer. Need a bunch of them (around 24).

Also looking for any roofing trusses that are 40'. If you have something close let me know.

Thanks,

Chris

My father and I have something going along those lines. My father went to the county auction and picked up some telephone poles, and bridge plank. we are looking at a 30+x50. for trusses, you will probably have to look into engineered trusses, from Menards or some place like that.

But as far as telephone poles, check with the city to see if their are any auctions coming up or see about some of the smaller towns and if they will have any auctions. That is how we got ours.

Hey Chris,

I'll check with some of the guys here at OPPD and see what they do with the old poles, and see if you can take/buy them.

Call the local power company, especially the REC's. The REc's have been doing a preventive maintenence plan to ensure against major failure like we had this spring. It was largely successful, in that the REC had way fewer poles to replace than the big power company that doesn't do maintenance until forced into it... Anyway, they sell those old poles since they can no longer use them.
