I just traded in my old 03 XLT for an 07 Eddie Bauer 4x4. Wow, I immediately felt the difference in ride quality in the Eddie Bauer vs. my old XLT with close to 80,000 miles! Question is, what is the difference in gas milege between a regular 4x2 vs. 4x4.? I probably should have paid attention when I bought it, but my wife and I were blown away with the leather seats, plus all the other features our previous XLT did not have.

 

I hear you on the differance! I am coming from an 04 XLT, and the 07 EB is like a limo! I only have 300 miles, so I can't help you on gas milage yet!

 

I have a 07 EB EL 4x4 and this last tank was 17 mpg from combined city/hwy. The truck has almost 6000 miles and tomorrow it will get it's second change of Mobil 1. I have gotten 19.5 mpg doing 75mph and have seen 20-21 doing 65mph on 2 lane roads. I'me very happy with the mileage.

 

I had a 07 2 wheel drive EL while mine was being fixed, I put 1500 miles on it and it was at 16.5 mpg around town . I now have my 07 4x4 EL back with 1100 miles on it and is getting about the same mileage. The 4x4 handles better then the 2 wheel drive. other then that, they seam the same

 

Thanks for the responses guys. I've been getting similar mileage and my EB now has 430 miles. Yeah, my wife and I have been driving it quit a bit. The ride quality is so much quieter and smoother that our previous XLT. So far, I am happy with the mileage.

 

07 4x4 Limited: We have been getting 14.0 average city/highway in our foothills area. I drive it like a car and go 75 on the highway. Throw the 8000 lb. boat on there, though, and it goes down to around 8.0 mpg. That brings our weekly average tank to around 12.7 mpg.

 

I am surprised at the gas mileage that you guys are getting. I have an 07 Expedition EL 4x4 and am only getting 12 in mixed city and hiway driving. I even drove one full tank going nice and easy just to make sure it wasn't me and it didn't make much of a difference.

 

i too am averagin around 14-16 for city driving and 18-19 for highway. I have a heavy foot though

 

Can we get some postings on configuration of vehicle as I'm interested to see who has heavy duty trailer tow and who doesn't and whether this changes the ratio and therefore teh gas mileage people are seeing

Mine has the trailer tow package. My gears are 3.73 which is the same with the 4x4 the 4x4 with trailer tow or the 4x2 with trailer tow. The 4x2 without trailer tow has a lower ratio (3.33 gears I think?) I don't see any way that my truck is going to all of the sudden get milage like you guys are saying. I don't understand how mine gets 12 when I was driving slow purposely to get better milage and it still stinks. I didn't get the truck expecting good milage but i didn't think that it would be this bad.

You're not running something like 20's on it are you ?

 

I do have 20's. How would that effect the milage if the tire diameter is the same for 18's and 20's? It is only the rims which are bigger. The overall tire circumference is the same.

 

If the 20's are heavier, you'll be pushing around more unsprung weight which will affect gas mileage and acceleration.

My 4x2 with trailer tow package only has 500 miles on it, but we've averaged 15 in the city and 18 or so on the highway.

My 97 EB is averaging ~14.5 in city and 17.5 highway.

 

I can see that the rims might weigh more but I don't see how it knocks several miles per gallon off of my milage compared to the other people that have posted. I am averaging 12 to 12.5 over several tanks of gas driving very gingerly to try and get good milage. I first thought it must be the way I am driving. I have since said screw it I will drive however I like and it was only slightly worse. My lie o meter even matches my hand calculations which I was very careful about doing. These numbers are several miles a gallon worse then others even if all I did was city driving.
