I'm trying to get a bug sheild for my Expedition and I have a question. Is the hood on a 2007 Expedition the same as the hood on a 2007 F-150.

 

Don't know if the hoods are the same, but I ordered my bug shield from the parts dept at my dealer and it was a breeze to install and looks nice. Took about 10 minutes to install since the hood is already drilled for it.

 

Was the price reasonable or did they gouge you like most try to do with add-ons?

 

I believe the price was about $60 or something like that. I think that was pretty competitive with online aftermarket by the time you added shipping.

 

I didn't like the bug sheild I ordered from the dealer at all I returned it the next day. Yes the hood is drilled for it but the hardware or software I should say was all plastic and did not even hold the sheild on, and also they wanted you to stick these rubber **** to your hood to keep the sheild from hitting ... Not impressed at all.

 

True the hardware isn't metal but mine worked fine and the shield is solid. As for the rubber *****, they usually come with any bug shield, even aftermarket. The lexan will move during highway speeds so the ***** are to keep it from rubbing the paint during higher speeds.

 

I have never seen the **** before, didnt make sense to me to stick somthing on my new paint for somthing that is supposed to protect it. I beleive Lund makes one without ****.

GOT MY BUG SHEILD TODAY. $68 AT THE DEALER. THE PLASTIC HARDWARE IS KIND OF WEAK, BUT IT SEEMS TO BE PRETTY TIGHT AFTER I PUT THE RUBBER ***** ON.. THE TRICK IS TO TURN THEM AROUND AND STICK THEM TO THE BACK OF THE BUG SHEILD.


I LOVE HOW IT BLENDS IN WITH THE BLUE.

 

I have had those with the ***** before, very common on the low profile bug shields. They wear on the clear coat and you cant wash very well under the low profile shields. Lunds Avenger is a low profile that is too snug to the hood. Lund list's their Interceptor #18701 and interceptor II #730511 which are full height - no drill applications. Trying to figure out the difference betwen lunds #730414 and the #730511 ... both listed as Interceptor II's

 

I feel it is better to stick the ***** to the hood. At least that way they are stationary and shouldn't rub the paint in anyway unless they come loose. If you stick them to the shield, they can potentially be rubbing the paint alot as well as dirt getting trapped on them and then rubbing the paint. Sticking them to paint wouldn't ba any different than the dealer badges that most dealers use. As long as the area was clean beforehand, you shouldn't have any issues with sticking to the paint.

 

I agree with you Ratpack. When I had my 02 Explorer I stuck the ***** to the bug shield thinking it was a good idea not to have the adhesive on the hood, but to find out it was actually bad idea. After a few months I notice that because of vibration as well as dirt caught under the **** it wore through the clear coat. Now with my 07 Epxy I didnt make that same mistake.

 

I like the look of the bug shield, but how do you wash the hood under it?

 

I ordered an AVS bugflector II from Pep boys. No tax and no shipping. I think it was $56.00. All the holes lined up and took less than 5 minutes to install. It attaches with plastic rivits. Same is what is use to hold front license plate bracket on some cars. I have had it on for 3 months now and no problems.
