Howdy all .... quick question. While tinkering with my truck over the weekend, I noticed a part that needs to be replaced (it rotted thru) .... only I don't have a clue what it is. It's on my `85 F150 carb'd 351W ... it's a steel tube that runs between the engine and the firewall, which bolts to the backside of each head. Any ideas as to a name for this part ? I don't want to look like a complete idiot when I go to get a new one and have to draw a picture ... hehe

I know exactly what part you are talking about but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. It's up to you if yoiu want to replace it but I didn't. on my truck I just cut 2 pieces of sheetmetal and drilled a hole through it that a bolt could go through and bolted them in place covering up the hole for the tubes

I used to have a 1986 F150 with a F.I. 302.
On that truck those tubes actually went into a small block that was bolted onto the back of the head. I unbolted those blocks and found that the holes in the head for the tubes were threaded from the factory. I found a bolt to fit and that sealed the hole with no problems.
It was a pain to work on because of the location.

 

Thermactor tube from head to head, usually a dealer only item, most have the check valve threaded on. The check valve (9A487) comes separate, and can be a b!tch to remove. You'll need two gaskets also.

Two different tubes~production date change~look on VIN or certification label for build date.

1-D9AZ-9B449-A .. Exhaust Air Supply Tube~Use before 9/84

OR

1-E5TZ-9B449-C .. Exhaust Air Supply Tube~Use after 9/84

2-D7DZ-9C435-D .. Exhaust Air Supply Tube Gaskets~Same for either tube.

 

Why not try a used one? I might have one from an 88 351 kicking around somewhere...
