Where's the VAC INTAKE HOSE for SEAFOAM ???
98 XLT....SOHC 4.0 engine
Folks,
I'm needing to run some Seafoam through the manifold(?) system. I've added it to the oil for cleaning and now I need to do the other.
Well...from what I've read, you can use either the PCV hose or the brake booster hose to suck the stuff in...
Problem is...I can't make heads or tails out of all those hoses.
I see the diagram sticker on the left front under the hood...but that does not help much.
Is the brake booster hose easier to get to? If so (or not)...can anyone describe where exactly the hose to use is....and...once located...which END I disconnect to pour in the SeaFoam?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Here are the generic instructions :

With engine warm, slowly pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint through carburetor or throttle body throat. (If vehicle is port injected slowly pour SEA FOAM through direct manifold vacuum line that will feed all cylinders, possible sources are P.C.V. valve or brake booster line.) This will pull SEA FOAM down on top of the pistons and to the back of the intake valves to dissolve carbon. Turn ignition off. Restart engine after 5 minutes. If severe carbon build up is apparent, use more Sea Foam as previously directed. Make sure exhaust is well ventilated when using Sea Foam in these various ways as fumes will be extreme for a short time.
Pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint into oil crank case to clean rings, lifters, dirty parts and remove moisture.
Pour 1/3 to 1 full pint into fuel tank to clean injectors, carburetor jets, fuel lines and remove moisture.
Immediate Results: Smoother idle, increased R.P.M.'s better throttle response and improved performance.

the brake booster is the big round thing behind the master cylinder.
find the thick hose attached to that.
pull it off there and slowly pour into hose, i use an old starbucks cup.
do 1/2 can either make it stall or have assist shut off.
let it sit for 15 minutes or more.
will smoke like a motha so beware.
drive it around using low gear and stating and stoping to clean out.
than do second half of the can and repeat the drill.
do not leave it in the oil too long.

Is that (the brake booster) on the back right of the engine compartment as you are facing the windshield (with the hood up)?
If so....
I pull it off where it goes into the brake booster.
With the engine running...pour in half a can.
Will it stall by itself....or will I have have to shut it off (me or someone) to get it to stop?
Once it is stopped.....should I re-attach the hose immediately....then let it sit for 15 min?

drivers side.
sometimes it stalls or shut it off quickly.
reattach the hose and go have a coke or lunch.
i let it smoke a bit going up and down the rpm range, not past redline, than i go for a drive.
usually in 1st gear up to like 400 rpm, than i stop and repeat a few times.
than i go for a drive with trands in drive for like 5 minutes.
than i repeat the process.

reattach the hose and go have a coke or lunch.
i let it smoke a bit going up and down the rpm range, not past redline, than i go for a drive.

Thanks for the feedback. I gave it a try a few days ago....easy as pie....after I knew what to pour where.
Couldn't help but feel a little nervous at first...pouring flammable liquid down a vacuum hose.......it stalled.....waited about 20 minutes.....held my breath on restart...but it cranked right up. Smoked like a dog....putted around in Low gears for a minute then took it out on the road.......looked like a yayhoo driving around an oil burner....but it cleared up after a few miles......came back and changed the oil for good measure (I heard it's a good idea to change the filter afterwards).
All in all...no problems...worked like a charm.
