Conversion / Swap: C6 to E4OD questions
Hello, all. Thanks for reading.
I'm looking to swap my C6 with a Gear Vendors OD for an E4OD. Looking for a 97 or newer DIESEL E4OD from the junkyard, and looking at either Compushift or Baumann Electronics for the brains of the operation, but I was hoping to ask around to see what other surprises are out there waiting for me on this project.
This is my FIRST Ford Truck. It's a 1987 F-250, 6.9 Litre Diesel, Banks Turbo, Gear Vendors Over/Under drive.
I'm looking to swap because I want a lock-up converter, and the Gear Vendors unit is acting up, dropping out of OD at highway speed or whenever I start to get on it. Downhill coasting, it'll chatter like all hell, hopping in and out of OD. In either case, I'll be happier with a real OD trans and lock-up. Anyone looking to swap should email me.
I have a few questions:
Do I need a different / new flywheel? Flex plate?
Is there anyone out there besides Baumann Engineering and Compushift that makes a brain for this trans?
Driveshaft shortened? Yoke ID / OD?
Rear end ratio / ring gear need to change?
I don't tow much, it's mostly a motorcycle hauler, so is there a taller rear gear I can look into? Dana?
