Pickup tests

While getting my truck inspected, I read an article in Mechanics Illustrated where they conducted a series of tests on Ford, Chevy, Toyota and Nissan pickups. I was surprised that the F150 came in last (The Nissan was first). in almost every test. The quarter mile time was really bad for the Ford, they ran empty and with 1000lbs aboard and the other 3 trucks with 1000lbs. beat the empty Ford. They attributed the bad results for Ford to the newer designs of the other 3 and said Ford will be playing catch up.

It's from Popular Mechanics, there are several threads on it now.

"Popular Mechanics tests full size pickups...and the winner is..."

"Anybody seen Popular Mechanics?"

Good one! The funny thing is that after the last page of the truck test there is a 2 page Nissan advertisement! ( actually I'm guessing on that one )

"And the Popular Mechanics truck of the year award goes to..."

I've heard several sources say that the f-150 doesn't feel like 300 hp. The more honest testers contribute it to the automatic transmision. Seems it robs alot of power and with slugish shifts, you don't feel the power that the motor has, or get it to the ground. I don't have a new 150, so I'm not talking from experience, but repeating what some mags have said. I wonder how the 5.4 would feel with a manual tranny in an f-150, how much of a difference it would make. I guess we'll never know, seeings how you can't a manual tranny with the 5.4.

I don't know about that, but following the pickup article was some words praising the Ford Superduty.

Sounds like a real world test afterall, I always load my pickup with a heavy load and drag race it at the local track. These tests are really stupid. What I really care about are dependability, workability (e.g. low end grunt) and total cost of ownership.

its all BS. I bet you the F-150 beats hands down but just dont say it so people buy the mag, I bet Nissan and Toyota thorw them a few bucks cause there make it back in tryuck sales, come a Nissan oy Yoda can not touch any of the big 3. loaded or unloded on or off road. all the big 3 out perform them. They are helping the forein automakes sell ther product vs the US. If the Magizine said:

Ford F-150#1
Chevy/GMC#2
Dodge Ram#3
Nissan#4
Toyota#5

Nobody would buy a Nissan or Toyota if they actully said how much better the ford chev and dodge are nobody would buy the other 2 truck. they know peopel well buy it any ways they are payed to take away sales.

You're pathetic. Maybe if they actually were better, then they'd rank them that way.

Based on thier OBJECTIVE tests, that's how they fell. Maybe next time Ford will actually put out an engine that performs, a transmission that has more than 4 misspaced gears, and isn't overweight for it's class.

You people and your conspiracy theories must be dilusional.

Just where do you get your facts from? Every day it's the same BS...yadda..yadda..yadda. If you backed up your "Ford Almighty" posts with facts, I might tend to believe some of them. But until you test the competition, you have no credibility...none.

I see your point, and agree for the most part.

But if I want to haul anything heavy with my 4-banger Ranger, I have to plan around hills, traffic, etc. because even with no load it can barely keep up with normal urban traffic. Put more than a couple hundred pounds in the back and its downright dangerous in heavy, fast city traffic (I'm originally from MA...).

Over weight = bad

So F150 = bad, is that what you're saying?

I'm trying to translate that last sentence there. I see that you're waiting for a test drive. You might be ill? Test drive a Titan you say? Maybe I will.
