how much oil does it hold??

ok....i know its been discussed before.....well probably
but i would like to hear from you guys.
in my manual, it says the 5.4 holds 6 quarts of oil, at work, i went on AllData and it says it holds 6.6. Whenever i changed my dads oil i always put 6 qts in and it was always at the half mark. So when i changed his and mine just the other day, i put about 6.5 to 7 quarts in and its right at full....anybody else notice this? and yes, i waited 20-30 minutes each time before i checked it

I'll have to check mine. I had it changed and they put in 6. I'm pretty sure it's right at the full mark. But if you can add more to make it come up to the full mark I would do that. The more oil the better. Obviously not over full!

Yes, Ford says 6qt's. It will show 1/2 on the stick which is in the normal "do not add" range. I use 6 myself. More than that can get into the crank and rods causing drag from being submerged in oil.

Shop manual says 2002 6.0 qt. newer 5.4 3v takes 7.0 qt. Anywhere in the hash marks is full.

I always go by the dipstick, the '97s take 7, mainly because of the remote oil filter that has a good 6+' of hose going to and from it

my 2003 5.4 takes 6.5-7 qts of oil. I always like to put just enough oil so it is just below the full mark because I go through a lot of steep hills and I still want oil pressure while doing it. But I don't go above the full mark.

i have a 5.4 2002 4x4 and i put in 6.5 because if i put 6 in i somehow burn a half qt at 3k so this way by the time 3k comes im still at 6.....plus with 6.5 the dipstick looks better to me anyways...

My 2003 F150 4.2 takes almost 7 full quarts. I change my own oil and filter every 5000 miles and use Ford 5W20. The 7th quart actually only uses 800ml according to the gage on the side of the bottle to bring the oil level right to the full mark.

I always start the truck after filling it with six quarts to allow the oil to circulate through the new filter. After sitting for a few minutes, I then fill to the full mark.
