Reverse sensing system

My back up sensors went on the fritz today. When I put it in reverse, it acts as though I am right up against something and sounds a continuous tone (not beeping). I checked for dirt on sensors and nothing is there. I can turn sensors off with dash switch.
Anyone else experience this and what is the fix? I really like having them and don't want to lose the use of them

Giving the sensors a good cleaning usually fixes the problem.

Tried that, didn't help. I also was going to look for the fuse but manual didn't mention a fuse for this system. Must be linked to another fuse.

hey at least yours make some sound!! mine makes no noise and as soon as i put it in reverse it kicks off(light comes on)Not even a beep.
U can try to unplug one sensor at a time to see which one it is.Might be a bad sensor.

I did a little troubleshooting today from some info I found on the Ford service manual DVD I bought on EBay for 23.00 (good deal). One of the suggestions was to do just what you said, unplug one sensor at a time to try and find the bad one. I attacked it from the other end first since I wasn't sure how to unplug the connector from the sensor. I started at the connector to module located behind right kick panel. It looks like I don't have voltage on pins that should indicate voltage. Didn't have enough time to run through whole test though and it looks like connector shown in manual has more pins than mine does. ??? More to come.

Yep, the connector is right behind the kick panel but the PAM module is a little higher up. You can put your hand on it but to get to it to remove might require removal of heater duct (or whatever that big black box is under glove box) If yours doesn't make any sound, it might be harder to find.

Wow, what a rip. Yes the speaker is built into the parking aid module (PAM). My next step will be to unplug one sensor at a time to see if that eliminates the fault. If I find a bad sensor, I'll just leave it unplugged or see how much a new one costs

hey how did u check for the right voltage on the module? I popped it off, its really small for 260! Not sure if thats the problem but there are only three things with the back up alarms, switch, module and sensors.
Anyways how did u check yours?
cheers

I used the instructions from Ford workshop manual. Like I said earlier, I didn't take the time to thoroughly run through all the test points because some of the pintests called out in manual didn't match the connectors I have so I'm not going to rely on that information. Based on the symptoms I have (continuous tone), the manual suggests to check for corrosion or pushed out pins in each connector. That's my next step. If everything looks good from there, it says to install a new parking aid module(not gonna happen)

Problem disappeared has has never surfaced again. Don't you just hate those unverified failures. Bound to pop up again for no reason. Probably a moisture or corrosion issue.
