Heads Up! Poor Install or Design Flaw?

I made reference to this problem on my new Expedition EL EB in another thread but thought I should make a new thread about it.

On 1/31 we picked up out new Expedition EL EB. Just this morning my daughter informed me that the RR 3rd seat cover had ripped. I think what happen was the plastic cover for the hinge popped out and when the power seat was put in the down position the cover ripped the seat cover.

I then found out that the service department at the dealer was open today so I made the trip over. After 2 service writers looked at it and took pictures to send somewhere. I put the cover back where it was supposed to be, with the exception of getting the top part locked behind the hinge/arm it was covering. I then powered the seat down. On the down stroke the corner of the seat buckle got caught in the center opening of the cover (take a look and you'll know what I'm talking about) and pulled the cover out and pushed it towards the passenger side. Then put the seat in the upright position again. Then cycled it down again. This time the cover that was pushed over towards the passenger side caught the seat cover and started to shove it up.

So, we know know how it's happening. THere's not much room to "bend" the bcket towards the driver side since it's very close to the other seat. I think the best fix is a solid cover so there's nothing for the bucket to catch on.

I don't know if there a better chance of this happening on the power fold seats versus manual or not. I think there's a chance it could since the movement on the power fold seat is slower than when you manually throw the seat down.

Well, sure enough, my cover is popped off as well. Nothing is ripped, but I could not get the cover back on. Does anyone know how it is attached at the bottom part of the seat? If I could get it loose, then I could put it back correctly.

Thanks for the head's up!!

It has to slip over the top portion first and then fastened below I believe. The dealer replace my cover, but there's one area where it's a bit bumpy so I'm taking it back in tomorrow.

I see how it is supposed to slip over the top bolt, but I can't figure out how it is attached at the bottom. Did you by chance see how they got it off the seat to reattach it? I am going out of town tomorrow for over a week, so I have to think about it that long before I can go to a dealer. I think if I could get it off I could put it back on correctly and maybe figure a way to keep it from happening again.

Thanks!

Well, finally got by the dealer Friday and they looked at. First words they said were it appears to be a design flaw. So my guess is this is happening all over but until more '07's get on the road, there may not be a fix. I am to return it today for the correct technician to look at it and put the cover back on. He is also supposed to see what he can do to help the situation. I may see if there is a way to write Ford and see what their response will be.

Thanks for the information. I have not checked this as the power seat was folded down at the dealer by the salesman while I watched the day I bought it and has stayed that way since as I have no need to raise it up. I willl test it out, but will be on the look out for a problem or a ripping sound.
Come on Ford, get it together!! The power 3rd seat was their big selling point of the 07 Expedition that they were always bragging about on their TV commercials.
May be they had to edit out the ripping sound during the demo shots.
