They are used to give you a better ride, power steering (if you want it), and disc brakes. They are usually found on Mustang II's and Pinos, I don't know what years though. My salvage yard told me once that it would cost $125 for a savaged front end, then add about $400 for an aftermarket crossmember, and then the cost of rebuilding it and installing it and you could could have one for under $1000. Or you could go for an all after market chrome suspension with all the exstras and have it for around $5000, just how far you want to go with it. You can try searching the '60-'48 forum for more info on it (although the search option is gone now). They have a better understanding in this subject. Godd luck!

If you really want a Mustang II front suspension, and don't want to buy an aftermarket kit, then look for '75-'78, try to avoid the '74 since none had a V8, but in '75 Ford put a V8 in the Mustang II. But, you really are better off in the long run to just purchase a kit from somebody like Heidts or something. You'll have all new parts, plus you'll be able to do upgrades to bigger brakes, and better A-arms and springs. PLus, they take all the guesswork out by selling you a kit made specifiaclly for your year truck. Remember, the Mustang II's in the boneyards have 25+ years on their suspensions, and most probably need some new parts.
