Sweet truck...I like it. I just wish they would start making a 3/4 and ton truck...with a diesel engine.

The front will grow on me like everything else but the rest of it looks pretty sweet. If I was in the market I'd put it on my test drive list.

 

Nice truck. The only problem is that farmers and ranchers are never going to buy a Toyota.

 

The 5.7 381 HP* Engine is only available in the SR5 amd Limited Double Cabs.

No prices have been announced, I checked edmunds, cars.com and toyota.com.

*Edmunds just dyno'd a 5.7 ..the results: 321HP at the rear wheels.


No fellow FTE'ers, I'm not buying one. Just checking up on the competition.

 

You might be suprised...If they would come out with a 3/4 and ton truck with a diesel option, I know plenty that would...myself included.

i wonder how that 1/2 ton rig would pull 10,800 on hills.

 

I'd be hesitant to tow that much weight with a 1/2 ton truck regardless of the HP & Torque specs.

There's a rolling chassis of the new Tundra's making the rounds of the autoshows. No one will ever confuse the Toyota frame with an F150's frame.

The Tundra's frame looks flimsy, is unboxed, and the crossmembers aren't much better.

Are you being sarcastic? A 381 HP engine only available in a couple (and probly most popular) models is a bad thing? Are you aware the 5.7 has more HP at the rear wheels than the 5.4 at the crank??? I refuse to take part in this Ford: always good -- Toyota: always bad, crap. Time for Ford to step it up and get going on the Hurricane and/or Diesel option.

 

There is nothing in my post saying one is better than the other, all I did is respond to this thread. Besides the Tundra won't be available until around the 7th of February, so outside of seeing a couple at the autoshows, I will not pass judgement on one till I drive it.

Only two CC models are available with the 5.7...go to Toyota's website and read it for yourself. This surprised me, seeing that you can buy several other trucks in stripper form with big engines from Nissan and GM.

I could care less how much HP one truck has at the crank, as opposed to what another truck has at the rear wheels. HP is what the car salesman sells...torque is what motivates the truck.

Personally I don't buy stuff based on HP...I buy stuff that fits me. I own 7 other vehicles besides Fords. Come on over, and see for yourself.

 

Yeah and I know a lot of people who wouldnt be caught dead driving a Toyota, myself included.
Ive owned Toyotas in the past and they were good vehicles, but to be honest, Toyota's quality has really dropped in recent years. They arent anywhere near as unbreakable as they used to be.
You might say that Toyota has grown too big for its britches.

 

If Toyotas weren't so boring to drive, maybe I would buy one. I like new Tundra and Camry, but if new Camry is anything like older Camry - I don't wanna it.

 

The way I understand the Toyota website, the 5.7 is optional for every trim level and configuration. Am I missing something?
