Went to PA farm show yesterday, and guess what? Toyota was displaying the 07 Tundra. First impression on looking at it- Boy is it ever ulgy. However it was a crewcab with an 8 foot bed!! Toyota is going to get the market that ford and gm refuse to enter. The rear windows in the crewcab are just stupid, they're only about as big as the ones on my ex cab. The tail gate actually has struts in it so that all you have to do is pull the handle and it drops down slowly on it's own. Not a real good idea in my opinion, as those struts will will out and likely be a bear to replace. Tailgate feels heavy to close even with the struts. Overalyy the styling is love it or hate it in my opinion. Doors were locked, but the interior looked cheesy from what I could see.

 

From pictures, styling is a mix of the old Tundra and the newer Tacoma. Dodge has "take it or leave it" styling as well. Toyota is looking to beat Dodge sales numbers anyway, not GM or Ford.

Dodge sold around 90,000 pickup in 1991.

In 1992, the new model sold around 300,000 units.

 

Looks aside, I'm sure it will still be an excellent truck.

 

New Ram came out in '94, not '92.

 

You want to talk about a heavy tailgate to close, try a Super Duty some time. I swear this thing weighs 75lbs. One of my guys at the shop closed itwith one hand and a arm load of tools in the other, darn near blew his back out.

 

I'll have to check that out, my buddy just bought one. But i'm not sure that any of them can even come close to the nissan Titan, it feels like your trying to pick up the whole truck!

 

I think the new Tundra crew cab is called CrewMAx It only comes in a 5'3' bed. The interior size is on par with the Dodge Megacab.

I think the new Toyota is bogus. Just watch though. First they'll target Dodge, but then who's next? Yes. GM and Ford. But we shall see. Personally, I'd buy a Ford, Dodge or GM 1/2 ton over that new Tundra. Just a very ugly truck IMO.

The one I saw wasn't that style. But it did appear to have 4 forward opening doors. One would think toyota would have had a rep on hand to show me the truck, but they just left it there unmanned and locked.

 

I saw an artical about this truck in a magazine. like 380 horse, 400 lb ft torque, 4 valves per cylinder, and dual overhead cam.

 

Have to agree on the ugly point. I think our Ford's just kill the Toyota in style, outside and in, but I would imagine they'll give the American made vehicles a good run on dependability. I'll stick with my F series.

 

I sat in the new Tundra at the Hampton Roads International Car Show a couple of evenings ago. I was not impressed with it, sure it had every feature you could dream of but it felt like it was missing something. I think sometimes the companies take the boxed look a little to far and Toyota defenitly did that with this trucks interior. I didn't have that much trouble with the tail gate, I don't think it was much worse (or better) then the one on my 99 F-150.

I have no doubt that Toyota studied the Dodge Ram very closely when designing this truck. You can really tell with how the hood is formed and the front end if configured. Just like their former style looked very much like the 97 - 03 F-150.

 

Oh by the way, sorry for the double post, but anyone else notice how Toyota is taking a swipe at Ford? Maybe it's just me but their commercials are aimed directly at Ford's the truth about trucks. Chevrolet is doing something similiar but you actually have to seek it out on their website.
