A memorial for a friend Killed in Iraq
Hi guys I am looking for a place to get some custom air brush work done on my tailgate.
Our friend Sgt. Kraig Fortek was killed in Iraq in Oct. I have been thinking about having an American Flag and a picture of Kraig painted on my tailgate to honor him. I have been working on several different ideas in Photoshop. I don't have anything firm yet still in the early stages. I will come up with the art work I just need someone to air brush it on the truck.
Do you guys in Northern Illinois or Southern Wisconsin know of any shops that do this sort of thing. I thought about going with the printed vinyl but I think it would look better painted.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
Pat

Check with the Custom Shop in Flanagan, Illinois, They are about 100 miles southwest of Chicago. John is an excellant painter but not sure if I have ever seen any faces he has painted. Faces are probably the hardest thing to paint and make look realistic. Their website,,, www.customshop.org

well, I think its really cool that you would do this as a memorial for your friend. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and even more a US soldier.
My brother was in Iraq for a year but thankfully he made a safe return but can relate to many feelings and emotions that you are going through.
Unfortunately I do not know of any aidbrush artits. But I have seen a truck with an awesome custom paint job at Central body shop which is off Roselle rd. Im not sure what town it is in though. I think its between army trail and wise rd. I know thats a long stretch but hopefully it will help.
Good luck and I would like to see it finished

Sorry about that. The army uses abbreviations and or codes for everything. I joined the IL ARNG witch stand for Army National Guard. The AR is for army so it doesn’t get confused with the Air National guard. In March on my birthday I am leaving for BCT witch stands for Basic Combat Training. Most folks call it basic. Some even call it boot camp but that is an incorrect term (according to my dad who was activity duty Army Sergeant during <st1:country-region><st1lace>Vietnam</st1lace></st1:country-region>) AIT is Advance Individualized Training, is training/school you go to after basic. There you learn your MOS Military Occupancy Specialty or the job you will do in the military/army. My ultimate goal is to go to <st1lace><st1:PlaceName>OCS Officer</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName>Candidates</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>School</st1:PlaceType></st1lace>. I am eligible because I scored high enough on my ASVAB don’t ask me what ASVAB stands for and I got my bachelors. Two things you need for OCS. ASVAB is the test everyone takes no matter what branch you are in to see what jobs you can do. There is a math, BASIC physics, English, and reading on it. My MOS will be 91w, in the army alphabet that’s 91 whiskey witch is medic. In the Civilian World it is an EMT-Basic. Did you civilians get all that? JUST KIDDING. If you have any questions let me know. Sorry about your friend. What branch was he in? When I get back I am thinking of buying me a NEW 2007/2008 Ranger.

Sorry I forgot to say, I lived in <st1lace><st1:City>Oak Lawn</st1:City>, <st1:State>IL</st1:State></st1lace> until I was 14. Currently I live in The World’s Golf Center Orland Park, IL. Both are in southwest <st1lace><st1:PlaceName>Cook</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>County</st1:PlaceType></st1lace>. I will be going to Ft Jackson SC for basic then Ft Sam Huston for AIT. I am 27 but leaving for basic on my 28th birthday. I forgot to answer the question of were in IL I am before sorry.
