distributor not spinning

In the past I had to replace my distributor 'cause the rotor stop spinning. The shaft had become sheared somehow. While driving recently my truck had just stopped firing and quit. I thought the same thing happened......so I changed the distributor. The new distributor didn't spin while cranking the engine. I checked the old distributor and it was ok. The truck is a 1985 F150 with a 300 inline six. Anyone with any ideas as to what the problem may be?
Thanks a bunch in advance.

The gear on the camshaft may have stripped. Could be wear or possibly the oil pump has siezed.

I willing to bet that you've stripped the timing gears. Pull the distributor and have someone crank the engine while your looking down the hole. If the gear on the cam that drives the dist isn't turning it's time to pull the timing cover. either the timing gears have failed or the cam has failed.

I just helped a guy on this site with the same problem. His timing gear was minus a few teeth. I will see if I can find his posts.
