OK, I'm looking to replace my tires (2000 PSD). My X has some of the same wandering issues many of you experience and I think I've narrowed the problem down to the tires. I want to replace them with the stock size, and mostly want a smooth, highway ride. Any suggestions? Thanks

 

Just wondering if you have a sway-bar or radius rods? On mine the sway-bar took care the problem, and alot of people on this forum seem to swear by the radius rods also.
Just making sure that the problem isn't in axel wrap.

 

For smooth ride, and long tread life, go with Michelin LTX MS's

 

my choice would be bridgestone revo's-michy's will last a little longer but get hard and slippery after a while,you wont get that from the revo's

 

I disagree, I ran a set for 90K miles, they had tread still above the wear bars, and still had good performance wet or dry.

 

If you live out here in God's country,I would suggest that you go to Les Schwab's for a set of Wild Countrys.. I have been using their tires for at least the last twenty years on ALL my vehicles (including my lawn tractor and wheelbarrow) and have never had a tire or service problem..Their service is probably the best you'll find ANYWHERE...

I like the BFG atko's 295 75 16. Put 80K miles on the first set. The Excursion has Bridgestone Ravo 265 75 16 on Cernterline rims and they rub. When the X wore the BFG with American Racing rims they never rubbed.

Really like the Ravo's but there even more spendy then the ATKO's

 

I am running Michelin LTX MS E load on my 2wd Excusion and like the smooth quite ride they are great in the mud while pulling a 6000 travel trailer. For my wife 4 wd Expeditoin we are running Bridgestone Revoe. When it snows we all pile in the Expiditon and hit the roads to see if we can get the Expedition STUCK. Best thing to do is look around and ask alot of question till you get your answer. Good luck!!

 

Toyo Open Country T/As have a little more of a hard feel to them but they offer the best wet and snow traction of any tire i've ever driven on the street. They also have the deepest siping i've ever seen on any tire. Excellent long lasting wear characteristics. Very durable. I also liked Pro Comp A/Ts for a soft, quiet, good traction tire. The Michelin's are probably the best choice for you, they are pricey, but good street tires.

 

I threw a set of Michelin XPS Ribs on for summer driving. They are a fabulous tire. I might go for the XPS Rib Traction tire.

I took all the wander out of my X with a steering box adjustment and a energy spring bushing, sway bar and link kit. Its like having a new truck.

 

Ramsmoker, what is an energy spring bushing, and are you talking rear or front sway bar? I've done the box adjustment, with limited success.

 

I had the clunk in the front and looked everywhere for it. With out the front wheels on and on jack stands I had my daughter turn the wheels and thats where I found the front end of the springs shifting back and forth in the spring hangers. The energy kit had new spring bushings, sway bar bushings and link bushings. With a bottle jack, drill and air gun it took about an hour in the rain to completethe job. I was never concerned with loss of control untill the 100,000 mark. I do have traction bars and rear stabilizer. It still towed well but the spring winde up under wot was bad.

 

I second the bfg all terrains. just put a set of 295s on mine wednesday. silent on the highway
