Any chance of the 6.2L anytime soon?

Does anyone have an idea as to when we'll see a larger gas engine, specifically the Hurricane 6.2L motor that has been talked about?

I like the Expy-EL but want more power.

Thanks,
Eric

Probably in '08 maybe '09.
The F150 is supposed to get it (Hurricane--- now named BOSS) when redesigned for the 2008 model year. Internet rumor says there will be three BOSS engines to replace the Triton series... a 5.8L, the 6.2L and a 7.0L

"Rumor" has it that those three engines aren't coming out at the same time.

The BOSS is supposed to be OHC.

Which is why I wondered, in another thread, if it was just a current modular with the bore-spacing increased.

I don't think any will be a V10- but you never know.

I wonder which CID will be introduced first. With specs being thrown out (rumor) for the 6.2L, maybe we'll see that one and the others (if they really exist) will come along later. Maybe one of them is the "baby powerstroke"?

I just hope we're not going to have a completely new engine family again after all the modulars have done, they've been nearly flawless.

I've heard rumors that they've decided to use the landrover cgi diesel instead of that baby powerstroke. Though I wouldn't be suprised if they threw the powerstroke name on it just because its a diesel.

That's what I don't get.

Ever read Dilbert?

It's amazing how much engineers try to come up with great products, or push existing stuff that is GREAT in all respects, only to have marketing go "Nope, we need something NEW". And then have it fail.

Although, "Triton" or "modular" has evoked the "plug ejection" issues.

Sure, spend millions on a new design to get away from that stigma.

Or just rename the darn modular as "BOSS" or "21st century" or some other name.

Increase the bore spacing, maybe the main bearing width, maybe the rod bearing width, and have a 300K+ mile motor. The existing modular design already has been proven to last 200K+, even in "truck" duty.

But, where's the planned obsolescence ?

Nope, but I agree with everything you said.

They need to take a page out of chebby's book on this one.

I wonder what could be so great about a new design that they'd spend so much on one. The plug ejection issue has pretty much been solved with the 3 valve heads and I've never heard anyone say anything about it besides on the internet, so it can't be THAT much of an issue. Hopefully its a big a leap forward from "modular" to the next generation of v8s as it was from the windsors/460 to the modular, but I don't see all that much to improve on except hp numbers which they could have if they really wanted it seems.

Remember back in 1996 when we agonized over the loss of the "Windsor" engines. We were wrong about the Triton family, so let's give the BOSS a chance.

I think i was in second grade, so I didn't really know.. haha.

But thats basically what I'm saying, I'm not really sure what they're going to do to improve them though. Hopefully they'll be mod based like krewat said. But hey, if we get some cubes comparable to what the competition have and have basically the same type of engine things should get very interesting.

Maybe DOHC to match the Japanese?

I sure hope the 7.0 will be a V10. Big bore V8s are **** poor on gas, just look at the big Vortec.

It'd be very interesting if Ford spent all that money on the sohc 3v just to scrap it and move to a DOHC that was already sitting on the shelf.

It's been said that the 3-valve lives up to "almost" the performance of the 4-valve.
