I am about to take a trip with my 2000 F350 with 88,000 miles. I've done all the regular things to prepare for the drive (new oil, filters, coolant, etc), which also includes putting a new cam sensor in about 1000 miles ago (I always carry an extra!).

A friend of mine suggested having the "high pressure oil line seal" replaced. He said that the 7.3 has a problem with the seal going out and when it does, the engine losses all the oil in a matter of seconds.

Anyone heard about this problem? Any other suggestions?

There are o-rings that seal the connection between the port coming out of the High Pressure Pump, and the lines running to the oil galleries in the cylinder head. It's a good idea to keep a set in your toolbox, or in this case, with you in your glove box. They can go out at random. You could go for the life of the engine with no problems, or only a few ten thousand miles. Not many people have these leak from what i see. I wouldn't replace it if it isn't broke, but you can keep the seals and tools with you so you will be ready for it if it comes. www.puredieselpower.com has the seal kit.
