me and my diesel buddies were talking today in class that it would be hilarious to take a Dodge truck, and drop a 7.3 powerstroke in. yes, bass-ackwards, but the 7.3 would be the most heavily-modified one on the planet, and it would be hilarious all of the cummins guys flock around, and when you pop the hood, to see the disgust on their faces would make it worth it for me.

i think putting a cummins in a ford is like screwing your sister. if you're going to buy a ford, be prepared to modify the motor that's in it.

 

If we all run with that particular thought, then everyone would build Chevy's because they are cheap to mod and have a larger aftermarket support. I still see no reason to pull a good running motor. One that is hosed out is a different story. The power levels that so many brag about are not reasonable, and most of us really don't care, it is a pissing contest in basic.

On the Cummins conversion being compared to screwing your sister, Ford installs them from the factory in their medium duty and heavy duty trucks, so they must really like their sisters...

 

comment was specifically aimed at 250-550 trucks. my diesel tech teacher acutally told me that this past spring at Dyno Days. instead he didnt use the term "screw"

 

toyota already has thier own great diesel motors.they are in a toyota owned truck company branded with the name hino . from were i know! my bother in law used to be vp of sales for hino in the usa. still would be. just he refused to move to the detroit area when they moved from the nyc area

 

Hey guys Thanks for clearing that up for me. I have been to some truck pulls and a whole bunch of guys are pulling dodge cummins 85% of them, 10% chevy 5% Fords. why is this? I wish Ford could compete with them other trucks.

 

Hey guys I'll let you know how it turns out. My "Final Solution" is to put an inline pump type 6BT in my 55 F-600...complete with 47RH trans.

I put a cummins 4BT in my ranger. I'm a huge fan of cummins engines. My dad has a 6.0 powerstroke and now has blown 1 turbo and is in the shop again for the 6th time in 2 years since it was new.

Cummins owns the powerstrokes. Sorry. A 12V cummins is just about the best engine I could ever think of. Bulletproof and really easy to modify. Cummins engines are also easy to work on. V style engines are much more difficult IMO.

 

i'm gonna have to say the 7.3l PSD is the most bulletproof engine, 3 or 4 problems over the course of 10 years and 212,000 hard miles, 2 or 3 trannys, and a cam sensor, only times it's been into ford except when we're too lazy to change the brakes

 

the 7.3 PSD is the most bulletproof engine i love it 275.000 miles on one of mine and very little problems. the harder you run it the better it runs. But i like the cummins to but not the dodge

 

well yeah the cummins are great for a reliable high-performance engine, the 7.3 PSD has gotta be the msot reliable everyday, low-tuned engine

 

So has anyone done a conversion with pictures and all the steps involed.. I'm just curious and would like to know and see just what is involved..?

The web address I listed does them as well, and as you check it out, fordcummins has some quality issues... they don't do that many in reality. If you want someone who does them all the time, that would be Autoworld of Montana, autoworldmt.com They have been doing them for over 10 years, fordcummins reproduced their mounts to do his conversions, at least that is their words. They do have an impressive setup at Autoworld, been there to see it myself...
