Parts??

I read somewhere in here that after the first few tanks of BD that the fuel filter could use changing. When I told my husband that he wanted to know which one- are there more than one fuel filter? If so, how do I know which do we get extras of, specifically, the part # for a '96 PSD- do I just ask at the dealer? and, fabmandelux recommended a clear cover...what is the name of that part too. Finally, are there any other parts we should keep on hand to change if they go bad- we are going to be traveling through Mexico soon- can we change our own glow plugs, for example? Are there preferred parts or oil types when running biodiesel? I hate to ask so many dumb questions, but I know nothing about trucks...

I don't think there are any dumb questions here on this board! Not to worry! I'm pretty sure the PSD's only have one fuel filter... but I can't say for sure. I'm sure someone will be along soon to help you out with yor questions.
Meanwhile... welcome!

I think it only has one fuel filter, but I may be wrong. I think it takes a pretty mechanical person with a lot of time to change glowplugs on a PSD, not near as easy as the old IDI, but I wouldn't worry about it. on strokes, they normally crank even with bad glow plugs unless it gets really really cold.

I have 97 powerstroke only one filter sits right on top of engine in front. Screw on lid with gasket. Simple to change unscrew cap remove old filter and replece with new one. I run wix filters cant remember part# right off but they are not that expensive. Jeep 1947

One filter mounted next to engine....run any diesel oil you want, everyone has their own opinion....That mexican fuel may be high in bacteria and may cause problems. Bring addative for that reason alone.

A couple of extra filters will come in handy for the same reason. Fleetfilter.com is very reasonably priced.
