Transfer Case Shifter **** Removal

Trying to get the shift **** off, doesn't show anything in the Haynes manual. Is it threaded on or pressed on?

I'm almost certain its pressed on because I can pull the **** off on my 88. The shifter dosn't have any threads but I think its grooved to prevent movement. I just went out and tried to pull the **** off on my 97 work truck, but its too tight. You might try hitting it from the bottom up to break it free. Good luck

Not threaded. It pulls off with great difficulty.

it looks kind of like a gear. You can prolly turn your **** to loosen it.

Question...why are you taking it off?

I took mine off a while ago because i am carving a duck head out of wood for the ****. Havent touched the thing for at least 2 months though

I was trying to get the boot off so I could pull the carpet out. Kinda spilled some Diesel Kleen behind the seats so I needed to give it a good cleaning. Ended up just removing the whole shift arm from the linkage. All good now. Thanks for the replys
