Take a look at this pic of the EEC test connector:
The terminal marked "Self-Test OUT" should be what you want. Hook into that wire at the back of the plug and run it to your CEL.
I was looking for a diagram in my books to see what terminal of the computer is used for the CEL but I couldn't find the right diagram for your engine. You might want to order an EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Trouble-shooting Manual) from Helm Publications:

I bought one of each for my Ranger and for the Mustang I got the 5.0 out of. Very useful for figuring out where each of the wires need to go when doing a swap.
