I have one that was my brothers almost 20 years ago. It's still here so.... if possession is 9/10's of the law then I guess I own it. Not much to write home about but was a cool truck in it's day. Brother blew the motor (292). It hasn't seen the road since. He was always going to find a new motor, but he ended up replacing that truck with a 74 F100 with a 302. I inherited that one back in high school. That's still here too.

I have a 1963 Unibody SWB with a 292. Im in the process of fixing it up...its been bored and had the heads milled..if you need any pics or more info just email...or what ever...

A guy a few blocks from me has what he said is a 1964 Unibody. I've looked at the truck and the door tag indicates it a 64 but I don't know if everything is correct on it.
He's had it for years under a shed and says it's for sale but he won't put a price on it.
I think he's waiting for someone to make him an offer he can't refuse.
Is 63 for sure the last year for the Unibody?

 

For U.S. built vehicles, the last six digits of a 1964 vin should be between 445,001 and 580,000. The 63 and older U.S. built vehicle should have a sequential vin number lower than 445,001. If things aren't adding up I'm sure you realize that people sometimes do funny things with door tags. This wouldn't be the first truck that someone changed the tag on just to register. Door tags are not meant to be the VIN proof only for warranty purposes as a handy place to post the number. The trucks true vin is stamped on the frame. BTW, be wary of the guy that won't name his price. I think he is just playing you like a bass in the weeds.....hold on because I think he's getting ready to set the hook.

Willie, hey I've heard of alot of 64 Unibodys, checked alot of trucks claiming to be, but I've yet to run across one. You can take a Unibody body and set it on a 64 frame and change the door tag, but you can't change the date codes stamped in asst. body pieces, and the one that would be the hardest to change is the one on the firewall, stamped above the heater blower motor cover, stamped in reverse should be a date code, if he will let you look, you can also check the codes on the front fenders, although not a positive answer. I own a '63, but don't know what I have. How would I be able to tell if my truck is a unibody or not? It looks like serial numbers would help, but again, I don't know what to look for. Perhaps you could educate me.

I don't own a unibody, but have been studying Ford trucks and thought folks would find the following interesting. I read that the unibody was developed because Ford wanted the pickup truck to be more carlike. It apparently didn't go over all that well at the time and was finally discontinued. I also read that what initially brought back the separate bed was Ford's introduction of the four wheel drive pickup and that they felt there would be too much body twist for 4wd on the unibody.

 

I have a 1962 Mercury Unibody longbox with a six cylinder, and a 1962 Ford Unibody shortbox with a six cylinder. I think you have a great idea with a Unibody registry.

 

I have just bought a 1963 F-100 Ford Unibody..292V8 the body is in great shape just a few dings...witch can be easly taken out.
i have had a few problems with the aftermarket stuff the pre. owner had put in ..Electrical prob. but i have taken care of thoes for the most part

Robert I own a 61 long bed unibody. It has a 292 and a 4 spd granny low. I'm not sure how the truck was originaly equipt. I do know that the tranny is not OE I think the engine is not OE either. Also, correct unibody trucks had a steady sloping crease line on the original doors, not the step down crease of the seperate bed/cab type..

 

hey, i have a unibody, its a 62 or a 61, i dont know. i would like to know if there are any web sites or if you know how to tell the year difference by the serial number. and do the numbers pertain to standard trucks too. my unibody has a 223 in it. thanks

 

Hi Robert. I have a 1963 Uni-body long bed. I am currently fixing it up quite a bit after the motor spun a bearing a year and a half ago. The motor is just fine though, the crank was turned, I bought a new rod(that was the hardest thing to find), bearing kit, etc. The only thing I couldn't find anymore is a camshaft. That is what is limiting the build up of the motor. I am currently looking at getting the original cam reground through a machine shop. BTW, it is a 262 I-6 and has a 3spd. trans with a 9 inch rear and 3.89 gears. It is a fun truck to drive and handles like a car, just as Ford intended. I will get back to you on the VIN and pics of the truck. It is currently in primer right now and will be restored to original condition with the exception of thr paint. It was two tone with a cream and aqua. GAG! I am going with either red/white or blue/white. Talk to ya later.
