stumble in 3rd gear...

Hi, just bought a really cool '04 Lightning used from a local Doc... only about 15000 light miles.

having a little issue in 3rd gear under fairly heavy acceleration .... but not wide open.... seems to lose RPM for just a second and then comes right back up. happens in the same place, same RPM's... every time

any ideas what might be causing that?

this truck really rips and is just the damn coolest thing ever. other than this... and this is very very minor... this truck is near perfect.

I've read a few posts about something like this, but no solution...I'm not certain it's a "problem"...does your acceleration decrease when this happens?

Mine has done the same thing, only in second gear, since it was new. We think it's the torque converter locking up...drops the revs. I think the rising of the revs that we notice is just the acceleration curve because the truck is still accelerating hard.

doesn't seem to lose power or RPM at all... just more of a hiccup and only lasts for a moment.

These Ford trannies are a bit kooky IMHO...not the hardware, but the software/shift strategy.

Sounds just like mine, only in a different gear.
I think it's your torque converter locking up.
Let's see if some of the experts chime in here...

It's probably just your torque converter locking up. Normal.
