I would like wiring diagram to hook-up 1970 Ford two speed wiper motor with 4 leads to 1968 Ford two speed wiper switch with 7 terminals. Wiper motor fits fine in the wiper bracket on my 1965 F-100. The single speed, original wiper motor died and I was able to buy and could afford the newer parts listed above. I have the 65 shop manual and the 65 "wiring diagram" booklet but both are inadequate for 1965 and no help at all on this. I think a 1968-72 may do it. Can someone help on this - thanks, Gary.

 

Gary just use the whole thing, including the switch and all you will have to do is use the hot wire. Worked for me in my 66, from a 76.

Quit trying to make it complicated.

Thanks for the message John, but that doesn't help. The 4 leads coming off the motor are loose individual wires with terminal connectors on the ends. The four wires could plug into any of the 7 connector tabs on the switch. And I realize I will run a hot wire from the ign switch again it could go on any of the 7 terminals -no numbers or letters on the back of the switch and no molded plugs.

 

Not to speak for John, but I think he was suggesting that you should use the 70's switch that was designed for your particular motor rather than try to adapt the older 68 switch. It will simplify matters.

Is there some reason you were trying to use the 68 switch?

Gary if you have a mess and don't have the switch, you will need to get it or one. I have one that I am going to use on my project truck, so I'll try to help sort the wiring for you if you need mo help.

Sorry for the confusion. I have just returned from the wrecking yard and have found the solution. I thought I had all the parts I needed, but did not. The new 68 wiper switch I bought had an open back with 7 terminal lugs and the rebuilt '70 wiper motor had 4 spade connector color-coded leads. I assumed they clipped directly into the back of the switch plus I had no idea where to attach the ign hot wire. I was missing a plastic connector which connects -only one way- into the back of the switch. At the wrecking yard I bought a switch for $7.00 which has the plug-in cover on it and I snipped off some electrical wire which gives me the color code for attachment into the wiper motor. I will cut the 4 terminals off and solder the wires. The switch I bought came off a '70 Ford truck but '68-72 looks the same. I don't really need the rest of the used switch but having the whole thing I now see that neither the new switch ($30.00 from a Ford dealer), nor the rebuilt two-speed wiper motor ($55.00 from an auto parts store) had the missing plug for the back of the wiper switch. I expect to have it in and working this weekend without further difficulties. Thanks all, Gary

 

Good deal Gary, I'm glad you are about to be wiping again. When I pull one I just unplug the hot wire and take it all still connected together. I beleive that you will have to use the old arm off the motor shaft to get the wipers to work. Don't worry if I missed it you'll find out soon enough.
